Michigan Tech Knocks Off No. 6 Grand Valley State 41-35 In Overtime

No. 23 Michigan Tech handed No. 6 Grand Valley State its first loss of the 2026 season, stunning the Lakers 41-35 in overtime in Houghton, Michigan.

The Huskies led 21-14 at halftime, but GVSU battled back and took its first lead early in the fourth quarter. The teams traded touchdowns before Michigan Tech quarterback Alex Bueno connected with Jake Rueff for a 14-yard score with 1:05 remaining, tying the game at 35.

Grand Valley State failed to score on its opening OT possession after a botched field goal attempt, giving Michigan Tech a chance to win. Bueno delivered with a 1-yard touchdown run, securing the Huskies' first victory over GVSU since 2014.

The upset featured five lead changes or ties in the second half and overtime, including a fourth-quarter punt return touchdown by Michigan Tech's Abram Larner.
