Hillsdale vs No. 11 Northwood Football Highlights | 2026 G-MAC Football2:07

After the carnage of Week 5, only 15 undefeated teams remain in D2 Football. Week 6 is about to get rowdy.

But, let’s not get too ahead of ourselves yet. Week 5 brought plenty of fun. I’m talking 70+ point games, shutouts, you name it. Some teams are well into conference play, while others just wrapped up game one. Here’s what we learned through 80+ D2 football face-offs:

Conference Play Is As Entertaining As Ever

I mean, duh.

If you haven’t noticed yet, conference play has been pretty crazy thus far, and Week 5 was no exception.

One highlight included four undefeated teams (two GLIAC, one RMAC, one G-MAC) squaring off against winless teams, and then proceeding to win pretty decisively.

No. 1 Ferris State extended their win streak to 35 games with a 42-0 shutout at Northern Michigan; No. 3 CSU-Pueblo led the way with 72 points, limiting Adams State to just 7 through 60 minutes of action; No. 6 Grand Valley State allowed just a field goal from Wayne State as they put up 69 points at GVSU Homecoming and No. 10 Northwood took down G-MAC rival Kentucky Wesleyan 59-14.

No. 9 Henderson State impressed against Southwestern Oklahoma State, erasing a fourth-quarter deficit to win 38-27. Trailing 27-24 as they entered the fourth quarter, Myron Thrash and Markavious Justice pulled through to secure the win. Thrash capped off a 75-yard drive with a 1-yard run to give the Reddies the lead, 31-27. Justice picked off a Southwestern Oklahoma State pass, which eventually led to a Maddox Davis 5-yard touchdown. The Reddies’ win was their fifth of the season and kept the team undefeated.

CSU-Pueblo Is Really, Really Good

We knew this already, but the ThunderWolves proved this again in Week 5.

No. 3 CSU-Pueblo took down RMAC rival Adams State 72-7 in their fourth game of conference play. Scoring on 12 possessions, the ThunderWolves racked up a school-record 827 total yards of offense: 450 on the ground and 377 in the air.

With their sixth win of the season, CSU-Pueblo extended their NCAA D2-best conference win streak to 29 games and their NCAA D2-best road win streak to 18.

Senior kicker Jackson Smith added another record to the board, finishing the game with a single-game school record. Smith was perfect in Week 5, totaling 17 kicking points with three field goals made and eight points following ThunderWolves’ touchdowns.

The No. 3 ranked team will capitalize upon a bye in Week 6 as they prepare to host New Mexico Highlands on Saturday, Oct. 17 for Homecoming.

North Greenville Is Having a Historic Season

In an extremely competitive road battle, North Greenville overcame a three-score deficit to defeat UNC Pembroke 42-41. With another game in the win column, North Greenville is 5-0 - their first 5-0 start in recorded history. Their 4-0 record following a 41-10 win over Conference Carolinas opponent Ferrum was the first time NGU has started a season with four consecutive wins since 2013.

Quarterback Kam Montgomery made history for the Trailblazers, totaling 372 yards of total offense to rank second in NGU history in total yards in a game. His six touchdowns in the contest tie him for first with two other Trailblazers.

The road warriors return home to host CC opponent Chowan at 12 p.m. in Week 6.
