Last week, I went 2-for-4 on my DIII football predictions. A solid 50% accuracy rate, if we're being generous.
I correctly guessed UW-Whitewater's win over UW-River Falls, even after Whitewater scored just one touchdown in the second half. My layup prediction, that Heidelberg would beat Baldwin Wallace in a close game, was shamefully wrong.

Heidelberg didn't start playing football until the second half, and the final score was 41-26. I was wrong on both accounts: they didn't win, and it wasn't a close game. Thankfully, I guessed the No. 10 over No. 9 upset in the FloCollege rankings, where Trinity (TX) beat Berry 23-6.
It's the worst way to gamble, with no stakes. But I'm a gambling woman.
No. 1 North Central (Ill.) Remains No. 1 Over No. 2 Wheaton (Ill.)
Not only is it the highest-profile D3 matchup of the year, but it's also one of the longest-running rivalries in Division III football. The rivalry dates back to 1900, with Wheaton holding the historical edge in the series. However, the Cardinals have won the past five meetings.
Now the predicament is: do I stand with history and go for Wheaton, or trust the FloCollege rankings and believe North Central is No. 1 for a reason? After some debate, the answer is clear: always trust FloCollege.
Both teams are undefeated this year. Both are on impressive runs in the 2026 season, with North Central holding the top spot for six consecutive weeks. Wheaton has moved up from its original preseason ranking of No. 9 to No. 2 after sitting fourth for three weeks in a row.
Regardless of the outcome, this is one of the most highly anticipated games of the season.
Prediction: North Central defeats Wheaton
Washington and Lee Gets Ranked After No. 21 Randolph-Macon Takedown
If you haven't guessed it, this is the underdog take of the week. Washington and Lee hasn't received votes yet this season, but I have faith in them.
ODAC play has started for both teams (which you can watch live on FloCollege), and both are 1-0.
The challenge for Washington and Lee is going to be Randolph-Macon's defense. The Yellow Jackets are coming off a dominant performance against Bridgewater College, allowing just six points in a 46-6 win.
Offensive lineman Wesley Howenstein and quarterback Ty Collins headline the offense for Washington and Lee, with Collins recording 335 passing yards this season.
Randolph-Macon has its own impressive offense with running back Mitchell Johnson and quarterback Jake Mulhern. Mulhern has almost doubled Collins' passing yards with 617 this season, while Johnson has totaled 315 rushing yards.
The stats favor the Yellow Jackets, but my money is on Washington and Lee.
Prediction: Washington and Lee upsets No. 21 Randolph-Macon
No. 5 Whitewater Reigns Superior Over UW Schools, Defeating La Crosse
After a monstrous win over No. 3 River Falls, UW-Whitewater is now ranked No. 5, and there will be no stopping Whitewater for the rest of the season.
La Crosse has a 2-2 record, winning its last two games against Wayne State and UW-Oshkosh. Whitewater continued its undefeated streak against River Falls while allowing just 16 points.
If last week was any indication of the rest of the season, Whitewater will be holding strong in its pursuit of the WIAC championship.
Prediction: No. 5 UW-Whitewater defeats UW-La Crosse
Will They, Won't They? Wilkes Will. Lycoming Won't.
If you asked me six weeks ago, I would have told you Lycoming was going to win the whole Landmark Conference. But after seeing the way these other schools have been playing, I've changed my mind, and I'm allowed to do that! So here's my new opinion.
This will be one of the top games in the Landmark Conference so far this year. Both teams have earned two wins this season, with Lycoming going 2-3 and Wilkes going 2-2. Both are also 1-0 in conference play.
Lycoming is headlined by running back Terrence Oliver, who has rushed for 329 yards so far this season. Wilkes quarterback Trey Dogmanits has thrown for over 800 yards this season. Every conference game helps determine who gets the tournament bid, and a loss could prove detrimental for either team.
Prediction: Wilkes defeats Lycoming
