Well here we are again. Another week of the 2026 D3 football season is done and dusted and it is hard to believe we are already at Week 6 of this season.
With Week 5 in our rearview mirror, there is a lot to take away from the previous week of action. The final weeks of the non-conference schedule has really started to show how the post-season could shape up.

As most teams prepare for their first week of conference, there is no "obvious" favorite for the D3 title in 2026.
So football fans, strap in. We are about to recap Week 5 of the 2026 season in full force and be warned: the takes are hot, the numbers don't lie and FloCollege is still the top place to watch D3 football.
1.) The Top-Dogs Have Fallen, Well Some Of Them
Yeah, you read that right. Week 5 of the D3 football season saw some of the top dogs in the FloCollege D3 football rankings stumble and suffer defeat.
While there has to be a winner and a loser in every game, you never expect it to be one of those top-ranked teams.
Notable losses out of the top-ranked schools in the FloCollege D3 rankings are No.3 WW-River Falls losing to No. 7 UW-Whitewater , and most shockingly, No.2 John Carroll dropping their game to WashU.
Granted, these games were not blow-out victories by any means, but for the winners of these games, they inch closer to either a spot in the rankings or a move up the ladder.
If these two Week 5 games taught us anything, it's that no one is safe on the field, no matter what the number side your name is.
2.) The Wisconsin Schools Are Each Other's Biggest Enemies
We have all heard about those rivalry games that make you get goosebumps and remind you what football season is all about, but what about a whole group of school having metaphorical "beef" with each other.
That's right, I'm talking about our friends in Wisconsin and this past week of football truly was the battle of the Wisconsin Schools.
The schools that so conveniently have UW in front of their name all seemed to battle it in Week 5 of the 2026 campaign.
We already discussed the matchup between UW-River Falls and UW Whitewater, but other notable Wisconsin showdowns include: UW-Platteville vs. UW-Stout, UW-La Crosse vs. UW-Oshkosh and UW-Stevens Point vs. UW-Eau Claire.
Safe to say that these games all were competitive matchups that maybe has shed some light that D3 football is unmatched in the great state of Wisconsin.
3.) These Four Texas Schools Could All Secure A Playoff Spot, But What Happens If Three Are In The Same Conference?
With conference play gearing up for almost D3 conference, our schools in the Lone Star State are ready to battle.
As it stands, I think anyone could predict that Trinity University (TX) , Hardin-Simmons, Mary Hardin-Baylor and even Howard Paybe could all secure a playoff seat by the time the postseason comes around.
Trinity should have the SAA wrapped up with its 4-0 record and Oct. 3 win against No.9 Berry College Football.
The problem comes to the American Southwest Conference. Three of the schools we listed above all play in the same conference and all have to play each other.
Howard Payne opens up conference play with UMHB and Hardin-Simmons opens up conference play with McMurry
HPU is 4-0 on the season, HSU is 3-0 and UMHB is 3-1. With only one auto-bid allowed from the ASC, where will the other two contenders end up in the at-large standings. The bigger questions is, who has to beat each other to ensure they secure that playoff spot come November.
The ASC could become on of the most wild in D3 football in the span of two weeks so you don't want to miss this.
Well there you have it football fanatics, another weekly recap for all of the chaos in D3 football. Want to keep up with the action or just see some really good football? Then make sure you are subscribed to FloCollege to watch D3 football for the remainder of the season.
