If you're new here, I'm Ava Curry and I make horrible predictions about DIII football. A quick debrief of my Week 4 predictions: I got 1 correct, and frankly, it was a layup.
I guessed the Springfield vs. MIT matchup would be a "close game." It was, with Springfield only winning the game in the final 2 minutes, with a score and a scoop. I was close in saying John Carroll would shut out Wittenberg, but they managed to squeeze in a single field goal.

My fatal flaw might be that I'll usually pick the underdog, but there's always a slim chance I'll be right, and I'll take every chance I get. Shooting for 2 this time around, here are my Week 5 DIII predictions.
No. 7 Whitewater Defeats No. 3 River Falls
A battle of University of Wisconsin schools, and no one is surprised I'm taking the underdog.
Both teams are 3-0, and the winner will take control of the WIAC. Whitewater has home-field advantage over River Falls on Saturday at 2 PM.
This one might be the wildest take I've had all season after UW- River Falls won the 2025 NCAA DIII Championship, while Whitewater was taken out in the second round. But 2026 has brought new football and countless upsets. I'm calling this upset now.
No. 21 Heidelberg Defeats Baldwin Wallace In Close Game
All of FloCollege admin has Heidelberg in this week's pick, so if I didn't pick them and they win I'll become the office jester. Not that I've ever fallen victim to peer pressure; I am picking Heidelberg of my own accord. However, I have faith in the Baldwin Wallace offense to make it a close game.
Over the past three games, Baldwin has put up 175 points. But their offense has to go up against Heidelberg's impressive defense, which has earned the team two shutouts this season.
MIT Takes Down USMMA
If Springfield is in the rankings, I want to see MIT. MIT has shown up this season, almost taking down Springfield in Week 4, and shut out New England College 70-0.
USMMA is 1-0 in the NEWMAC and MIT is 0-1, but I think Springfield will be their only loss for the rest of the season.
In 2025, USMMA took the runner-up spot in the NEWMAC, but this will be MIT's toughest matchup for the rest of the season. If they can secure this win, they are sure to find a runner-up position in November.
The best thing about this game, and my hopefully correct prediction, is that you can find out in real time if I'm right or wrong. Tune into FloCollege at Noon on Saturday, October 3rd.
No. 10 Trinity (TX) Best's No. 9 Berry
The closest ranked matchup of the weekend will put Trinity in front of Berry in the FloCollege Week 6 Rankings.
Am I picking Trinity for the sake of being the underdog? Yes. But, as usual, I have stats to back myself up.
Trinity has a fierce offense, rushing for 523 yards and holding opponents to 75 yards. They've also recorded 12 sacks, only allowing 6 from their opponents.
This game also has history. The teams played each other in the 2025 DIII NCAA Tournament, where Berry won 31-23. This year, Trinity comes back for revenge. Whoever wins this game is sure to win their conference, which Berry won in 2025.
