The FCS calendar has officially turned to October and Week 5 will bring a dome, a cup, and enough Top 25 collisions to put a few teams in danger.

The No. 1 team in the country gets the stage to itself Friday night, four ranked teams will collide Saturday and the CAA enters Week 5 with just one team inside the AFCA Coaches Poll Top 25.

There's also a Governor's Cup up for grabs, a ranked matchup returning after 27 years and plenty of teams trying to make sure September's success follows them into October.

Here are three things to know about the FCS Week 5 schedule.

Center of Attention: No. 1 Montana State Gets Friday Night To Itself

Want everyone's attention? Play on Friday night.

Want even more attention? Be the undefeated defending national champion walking into the Kibbie Dome.

No. 1 Montana State visits Idaho at 10:30 p.m. ET on Friday, Oct. 2, giving the 5-0 Bobcats the FCS stage to themselves before the rest of the Week 5 slate gets underway Saturday.

On paper, this shouldn't be particularly close.

Idaho is 0-4, including an 0-1 start in Big Sky play, and has allowed 42 points per game. The Vandals have especially struggled against the run, surrendering more than 237 rushing yards per game, which isn't exactly the recipe you'd draw up before facing the No. 1 team in the country.

But there are at least a few reasons not to completely write off the Vandals:

Idaho has had nearly two weeks to prepare after a bye, and its passing game has shown it can create explosive plays. Quarterback Joshua Wood threw for 363 yards in the season opener against Big Sky contender Cal Poly, including 180 yards and two touchdowns to Tony Harste. Idaho is averaging nearly 255 passing yards per game despite its winless start.

Then there's the building.

Friday will be Idaho's first Friday night home game inside the Kibbie Dome since Nov. 12, 2010, when the Vandals hosted Boise State. 

The Vandals are 19-7-1 at home against the Bobcats and upset Montana State 24-21 the last time these teams met inside the Kibbie Dome in 2023.

At the very least, Friday night just got a little more interesting.

Ranked Teams Are Going To Knock Each Other Around

Four ranked teams. Two games. 

The biggest matchup comes in Normal, Illinois, where No. 2 South Dakota State visits No. 11 Illinois State Football at 7 p.m. ET.

South Dakota State enters 4-1 and is coming off a 42-7 win over Eastern Illinois in which the Jackrabbits piled up more than 400 rushing yards. SDSU is averaging more than 300 rushing yards per game through five contests.

Illinois State has a very different kind of momentum.

The Redbirds entered last weekend tied for No. 4 before suffering their first loss of the season against Northern Iowa. The defeat sent Illinois State tumbling seven spots to No. 11, but Week 5 immediately offers an opportunity to answer against the No. 2 team in the country.

Then there's a ranked matchup we haven't seen this century.

No. 20 Colgate visits No. 22 Harvard at 7 p.m. ET in the first meeting between the programs since 1999.

Colgate moved up after beating then-ranked Villanova 28-21 on the road and enters the weekend 4-1. The Raiders' lone defeat was a 13-10 loss to FBS Central Michigan.

Harvard, meanwhile, is 2-0 and climbing quickly. The Crimson moved from No. 25 to No. 22 after a 14-10 win over Brown and now finally get to play at home.

Saturday will be just the 10th meeting between Colgate and Harvard. Harvard holds a narrow 5-4 advantage in a series that has been sitting untouched for 27 years.

Not a bad way to bring it back.

The CAA Top 25 Has Become A Lonely Place

One month into the season, here's something few would've predicted about the CAA.

No. 24 Campbell is the conference's only team ranked in the latest AFCA Coaches Poll.

The Camels are 4-1 overall and 2-0 in CAA play after beating Hampton 44-20, but there's a crowd waiting just outside the Top 25. Elon received 55 votes, Monmouth received six and Stony Brook received five.

Let's not forget about Rhode Island. The Rams entered last week ranked No. 21 before a 22-18 loss to previously winless North Carolina A&T sent them completely out of the poll.

That makes Saturday's FloCollege FCS slate particularly interesting.

Elon at New Hampshire is Flo's CAA Game of the Week at 1 p.m. ET.

Elon is 4-1 overall and 2-1 in CAA play after beating Maine 43-17. The Phoenix are now the first team outside the AFCA Top 25 with those 55 votes and have a clear opportunity to keep knocking on the door against a New Hampshire team that enters 1-4.

It'll also be Homecoming and Hall of Fame Weekend for the Wildcats.

Then there's Brown at Rhode Island at noon ET, where rankings can wait.

There's a cup to win.

The in-state rivals meet in the 44th Governor's Cup with Rhode Island desperately looking for a response after last week's loss. The Brown-Rhode Island rivalry dates to 1909, while the Governor's Cup trophy was introduced in 1981.

Rhode Island may have fallen out of the rankings, but beating your in-state rival and lifting the Governor's Cup would be one heck of a way to start climbing back.

Wrapping up the CAA, Towson visits Monmouth at 1 p.m. ET with the Hawks quietly sitting at 3-2 overall and 2-0 in conference.

Monmouth rallied to beat Dartmouth 31-28 last week for the 200th victory in program history and now gets Towson on Homecoming with a chance to remain unbeaten in conference play.
