Come one, come all, it’s time for another Anchor-Bone Classic. The most anticipated D2 football matchup of the season other than the National Championship.

Ferris State taking on Grand Valley State is always a matchup for the ages as these two teams have squared off a total of 26 times. The Lakers currently lead the series 14-12 and as they prepare to head to Grand Rapids, MI this year’s Anchor-Bone Classic will be a sight to see.

With 26 Anchor-Bone Classic games played, there have been great players who have seen the field for the Lakers and the Bulldogs. One of the most notable players to date is former Ferris State quarterback, Trinidad Chambliss. Chambliss is now the starting quarterback at Ole Miss and helped lead Ferris State to a D2 national title in 2024.

It’s a new year and time for current Grand Valley State and Ferris State players to make a name for themselves. So without further ado, here are five players you have to watch in the 2025 Anchor-Bone Classic.

Bow Wow Wyatt Bower: The Ferris State QB

All great football teams have great leaders whether it be on the field as players or on the sideline as coaches. For the Bulldogs, their leader is the player who makes their offense virtually unstoppable. That’s right, we are talking about quarterback Wyatt Bower.

The redshirt-freshman quarterback is steadily making a name for himself as a dual-threat for the Ferris State offense. Bower on the season through 7 games played is 85-for-133 on pass completion making his percentage rate 63.9. The young quarterback has 1,322 yards through the air and 15 touchdown tosses.

Bower is also a threat with his legs as he currently leads the team in rushing. The redshirt-freshman has 545 yards on the ground in the 2025 season with nine rushing touchdowns.

The Ferris State quarterback currently is fifth in the GLIAC in rushing and third in passing.

The Lebron and AD of the GVSU Lakers: The Grand Valley State QB Duo

A two-for-one duo will get things started for the Lakers in this five players to watch article. As it stands, Grand Valley State has consistently run a two quarterback system for the 2025 season and based on the stats, it seems to be working well.

Redshirt-freshman quarterback Andrew Schuster and sophomore quarterback Brady Drogosh currently helm the offense for the Lakers. Schuster carries the team through the air while Drogosh helps the team on the ground.

The redshirt-freshman currently 96-for-154 on pass completion with a 62.34% rate. Schuster currently has 1,337 yards and 13 touchdown tosses in the 2025 season. He currently leads the GLIAC in passing.

Drogosh is currently helping to lead the Lakers on the ground. He has 149 yards on 24 carries with four rushing touchdowns.

The Receiver Making Waves: Ferris State WR Cam Underwood

The Ferris State wide receiver room seems to be stacked in the 2025 season but one name stands out above the rest for the Bulldogs.

Senior wide receiver Cam Underwood is leading the way for Ferris State with 279 yards on 14 receptions. He has five receiving touchdowns on the season as well.

Underwood is currently tenth in the GLIAC in receiving and 12th in the conference in scoring in the touchdown category.

The Laker Receiver Who Tops The Stat Sheet: GVSU WR Kellen Reed

For the Lakers, one name soars in the stat sheet in terms of receivers for GVSU.

Junior wide receiver Kellen Reed is making waves in the Lakers stat sheet and is making a name for himself in the 2025 season. The junior has played in all six games in the 2025 season and has 292 yards on 19 receptions.

Reed averages 15 yards a reception and has four touchdowns on his stat sheet. In the GLIAC, Reed is sixth in receiving and ninth in scoring in the touchdown category.

All Bark & Bite: Ferris State DL Kailib Davis

Rounding out the 5 must watch players in the Anchor-Bone Classic, is none other than a true dawg for the Bulldogs defense.

Senior defensive lineman Kailib Davis is a major asset to this Ferris State defensive effort. In a defense that holds opponents to just 10 points a game, Davis has appeared in all seven games for the Bulldogs.

The defensive lineman has 13 total tackles on the season, seven solo and six assists. Davis has seven tackles for loss which accumulate for 31 lost yards, five sacks and four pass breakups.

In the GLIAC, Davis leads the conferences in sacks and is eighth in tackles for loss.
