NCAA D2 Football Insider: 5 Predictions For Week 8

Week 8 of D2 Football is here, and it's going to be a good one. Here are five predictions for the dozens of games that await.

I thought my predictions would be ready for playoffs at this point in the season.

Boy, was I wrong.

I went 3-2 in my Week 7 predictions, which, to be fair, is a winning record. Mars Hill did not get back in the win column, but Davenport did stay undefeated. More importantly, No. 1 Ferris State won by just one score (41-34) to rival Grand Valley State in the 2026 Anchor-Bone Classic - a prediction that I am proud of.

Anyways, it’s time for Week 8 of D2 Football, and it is going to be a good one. Here’s what I think is going to happen.

Davenport Football Stays Perfect

Honestly, I can’t say this is a far-fetched prediction at this point. This is the best season No. 9 Davenport has had since 2023, when they jumped out to an 8-0 start before losing back-to-back games to Ferris State and Grand Valley State.

With a 7-0 record to begin the 2026 campaign, I find it very hard to believe they’ll drop their first game to winless Wayne State in Week 8. The Panthers are 5-3 against Wayne State since 2017, and they have won the last four straight by a combined 95 points. My prediction isn’t close to risky, but it’s still a guess I’m sticking with.

Findlay Football Rolls To A W4 Streak

Walsh has lost their last three matchups, while Findlay is on a three-win streak. Which G-MAC team will win in Week 8?

The Cavaliers were hot to begin the season, taking their first four victories in stride, including a win against RV Ashland (17-10) in Week 5. Then came Thomas More (24-21), and then Hillsdale (42-27) and Tiffin (31-27). Each loss has been hard-fought through three quarters, but the Cavs can’t seem to string together a full 60 minutes.

Walsh takes on No. 13 Findlay in Week 8, a team coming off a 3-point win over RV Hillsdale. Findlay’s defense is the best in the G-MAC, led by Jon Slaper with 48 tackles (-27). In Week 7, Hillsdale fell 22-19 to Findlay on “Beat Findlay Day.” The game was controlled by the Oilers, who held the Chargers scoreless in the second half. If Findlay can put on a repeat performance in Week 8, they’re bound to win.

  • Prediction: Findlay Beats Walsh

Ethan Hamby Throws For 300+

No. 8 Northwood is home to Ethan Hamby, NCAA D2’s leader in completion percentage. This season, the Macomb, Mich. native has gone 177-for-235 (.735) for 2015 yards and 19 touchdowns, averaging around 288 yards per game.

Hamby has thrown for 300+ yards three times this season, and I think he could do it again this weekend. The TimberWolves face Ohio Dominican in Week 8, a team that has the second-worst passing defense in the G-MAC (61%, 258.6 ypg allowed).

  • Prediction: Ethan Hamby Goes For 300+ In The Air

JayJay Jordan Scores Twice

This isn’t a crazy prediction either: No. 5 Slippery Rock’s JayJay Jordan has scored at least one touchdown in every game this season with a game-high five rushing scores on Sept. 19 vs. Millersville.

Jordan leads Slippery Rock’s rushing offense, which is the best in the PSAC and one of the best in the nation at No. 7 with 1,946 yards. Jordan leads the PSAC in rushing with 973 yards for 18 touchdowns through seven games. His 18 touchdowns tie Davenport’s Cephus Harris for most rushing scores in NCAA D2. He leads the nation in scoring with 120 points (20 touchdowns).

In Week 8, Slippery Rock will host Lock Haven, a middle-of-the-pack PSAC team. I not only believe that Slippery Rock will win the matchup, but that JayJay Jordan will find the end zone twice in the feud.

  • Prediction: JayJay Jordan Scores Two Rushing Touchdowns

Franklin Pierce Football Beats Pace

Four teams in the NE10 have the same record: Assumption, Franklin Pierce, Pace and Southern Connecticut. Two of these teams, Franklin Pierce and Pace, square off this weekend at 3-0 in the NE10 and 4-2 overall.

Pace has the better stats: they lead the conference offensively and defensively in scoring; their rushing defense outperforms FPU and they’re extremely effective through the air. Franklin Pierce, however, can silence their offensive pressure.

The Ravens have picked off eight passes this season and have limited opponents to 85 completions on 173 attempts for just six touchdowns. FPU also has Jeremiah Hayes, a sophomore LB, leading the team defensively with 44 tackles (23 solo), 4.0 TFL (-17), 2.5 sacks (-15), one interception, one pass breakup and two fumble recoveries. If Pace wants to win, they need to make sure Hayes gets nowhere near them when in possession.
