From marquee matchups and rivalries to a Top-25 showdown on the horizon, Week 6 promises a full weekend of great football. The latest D2 rankings offer valuable insight into the chaos that unfolded in Week 5.
One of the biggest surprises from Week 5 came when then–No. 9 UT Permian Basin upset then–No. 5 Angelo State. In a hard-fought battle in San Angelo, the Falcons emerged with a 28–14 victory.
Another major storyline ahead of this week’s deep dive into the FloCollege D2 rankings is the fall of Slippery Rock. The Rock suffered a tough PSAC loss to Gannon, 38–35, in Week 5.
With teams climbing, dropping, and new faces entering the Top 25, it’s time for a true deep dive into this week’s D2 rankings.
So hold on to your hats — and don’t hold your breath — let’s get into it.
Spots Three & Four
Spots three and four remain unchanged from Week 5, with Kutztown still ahead of West Florida.
These two teams have flip-flopped in recent weeks, largely depending on opponent strength and margin of victory. Both the Bears and the Argonauts appear secure in their positions, especially as both remain undefeated.
With the top four teams unbeaten heading into the middle of the season, it wouldn’t be a surprise if all four eventually punched their ticket to the D2 playoffs.

The Shakeup
The upper middle of the pack is behaving as expected for midseason — teams are rising, falling, and beginning to establish their place in the Top 10.
Western Colorado jumps to fifth after Angelo State — the previous No. 5 — fell to UT Permian Basin in Week 5. The Mountaineers remain undefeated following their win over Fort Lewis College.
Spot six has a new owner: UT Permian Basin. The Falcons climb four spots after their statement win over Angelo State on Oct. 4. At 5–0, they’re trending toward contention for a conference title if the momentum continues.
Minnesota Duluth holds steady at No. 7 this week. While nothing major changed, it’s worth noting that the top seven teams are all undefeated — absolute insanity.
Minnesota State climbs three spots from 11th to eighth after a win over Concordia–St. Paul, continuing their steady ascent.
Grand Valley State moves up one spot to ninth following a 37–14 win over Davenport, remaining comfortably in the Top 10.
Rounding out the group is West Alabama, which drops two spots to No. 10 after being idle since Sept. 27. The Tigers won’t return to action until Oct. 18.
The Rest Of The Top 25
The rest of the Top 20 saw moderate movement compared to previous weeks, highlighted by a steep drop from Angelo State and a strong climb by Delta State.
Angelo State takes the biggest tumble of the week, sliding from No. 5 to No. 11 after its loss to UT Permian Basin. The Rams will look to rebound on the road against Texas A&M–Kingsville.
CSU Pueblo rises from No. 15 to No. 12, while Central Washington holds steady at No. 13.
Pittsburg State moves up one spot to No. 15 while Virginia Union slides into No. 16, and Michigan Tech climbs from No. 18 to No. 17.
Delta State makes a big jump into No. 18 after previously being on the edge of the rankings. Emory & Henry rises one spot to No. 19, and Indianapolis rounds out the Top 20, moving up from No. 23.
The final five spots in the Top 25 saw minimal movement, with Charleston (WV) up to No. 21 and Slippery Rock sliding to No. 22 after its loss to Gannon. UNC Pembroke climbed to No. 23, while newcomers Findlay and Northwest Missouri State round out the rankings at Nos. 24 and 25.
Several teams — including California (PA), Albany State, and Frostburg State — remain just outside the Top 25, eyeing a breakthrough in the coming weeks.
