Cover 4: Lion Kings
Cover 4: Lion Kings
The best college football bets of week 10.
Well, last week left a mark.
It's safe to say Florida State is not who we thought the Seminoles were, and Rice hit us where it hurts with the baddest of bad beats.
The 1-3 week knocked us below .500 for the first time this season, so there’s really two ways you can look at it. Either we’re due for a great week, or you should take these picks and bet the opposite.
Your call.
Arizona (+7.5) over SOUTHERN CAL
Saturday, Nov. 4 | 7:45 PM PT | Los Angeles, CA (Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum)
A month ago, Southern Cal was thought to be a playoff contender and Arizona was stumbling along towards what looked to be yet another disappointing season.
As it turns out, a lot happened in October.
Arizona quarterback Khalil Tate has made four starts, won an unprecedented four consecutive Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week awards, and rushed for 926 yards and eight touchdowns on 69 carries. In the process, the Wildcats have won four straight to move to 6-2 (4-1) and control their own destiny in the race for a Pac-12 Championship berth.
USC has lost twice in its past five games, including a 49-14 beatdown at the hands of Notre Dame two weeks ago. On the bright side, the Trojans' Sam Darnold threw just two picks last month after tossing eight in September. But USC is just 2-7 against the spread this season — and I still haven’t seen anyone who can stop Tate.
South Carolina (+24) over GEORGIA
Saturday | 3:30 PM ET | Athens, GA (Sanford Stadium)
I love Georgia. But 24 points is a lot of points against the 6-2 Gamecocks — in my humble opinion, of course. South Carolina is solid if not spectacular — not to mention 5-2-1 ATS.
I like Georgia to win handily but not this handily.
PENN STATE (-8) over Michigan State
Saturday | Noon ET | East Lansing, MI (Spartan Stadium)
Nothing about this line makes sense. Michigan State, most recently, beat Indiana by eight points and lost to a slightly above average Northwestern squad by the the same difference.
Penn State jumped on Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio, last Saturday and probably should’ve won. But the door was left cracked and the Buckeyes kicked it down. The Spartans don't have the firepower necessary to do the same in what should be a bounce-back performance for a focused Nittany Lions team.
North Texas (+4) over LOUISIANA TECH
Saturday | 2:30 PM CT | Ruston, LA (Joe Aillet Stadium)
Louisiana Tech just hasn’t been very impressive this season. And, while the Bulldogs have failed to live up to preseason expectations, North Texas has exceeded its own. I expect the Mean Green to win this game straight up, so the four points are just a bonus.
That being said, this is something of a grudge match after we picked against Louisiana Tech in its road game at Rice last week and had the win stolen from us on the wings of a duck turned pick-six. Might just pick against Tech the rest of the way if that’s what it takes to right that wrong.
Season Record: 18-19 — Considering just going Cover 1 and playing Khalil Tate at free safety.
