CAA Football Week 8 Awards: See Who Took Home The Honors

A quarterback broke a school record. A running back ended a 17-game home winning streak. A freshman who just can't stop collecting awards.

The CAA Football Week 8 Players of the Week are here, and the performances behind them were anything but ordinary.

Campbell's Kamden Sixkiller and UAlbany's Rahshan La Mons headline five conference honorees following the Oct. 24 action, setting the stage for a showdown between the two Co-Offensive Players of the Week this Saturday, Oct. 31.

CAA Football Week 8 Award Winners At A Glance

  • Co-Offensive Player of the Week: Kamden Sixkiller, Campbell
  • Co-Offensive Player of the Week: Rahshan La Mons, UAlbany
  • Defensive Player of the Week: Jamari Young, UAlbany
  • Special Teams Player of the Week: Michael Mannino, Stony Brook
  • Rookie of the Week: Kenny Smith Jr., Monmouth

Here's how they earned their hardware.

CAA Co-Offensive POTW: Kamden Sixkiller, Campbell

Campbell's historic season has come with plenty of milestones, but Kamden Sixkiller added a personal one against Maine.

Sixkiller torched Maine for 450 passing yards and three touchdowns in a 35-6 victory, breaking the school's previous single-game record of 426 yards.

The senior found 13 different receivers and helped Campbell improve to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in CAA play.

The Camels have already made history. Now they're chasing a conference title.

CAA Co-Offensive POTW: Rahshan La Mons, UAlbany

Rahshan La Mons rushed for 196 yards and three touchdowns as UAlbany snapped Rhode Island's 17-game home winning streak with a 38-21 victory.

The junior running back scored on runs of 36 and 65 yards in the second half, helping the Great Danes pull away from the Rams.

CAA Defensive Player Of The Week: Jamari Young, UAlbany

UAlbany linebacker Jamari Young recorded six tackles, including four for loss, and three sacks that cost Rhode Island 22 yards in the Great Danes' 38-21 victory.

Young also broke up two passes, helping UAlbany limit Rhode Island to 335 total yards.

CAA Special Teams Player Of The Week: Michael Mannino, Stony Brook

When Stony Brook needed to shut the door on Bryant, Michael Mannino had the key.

The sophomore kicker drilled a 43-yard field goal with 1:50 remaining, putting the finishing touches on a 27-17 road victory.

Mannino also connected from 25 yards and made all three extra-point attempts.

He's now 7-for-7 on field goals this season.

Seven attempts. Seven makes. Not a bad person to have on speed dial when the game gets tight.

CAA Rookie Of The Week: Kenny Smith Jr., Monmouth

Apparently, one Rookie of the Week award wasn't enough.

Monmouth running back Kenny Smith Jr. made it two straight after rushing for 163 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries in a 49-13 win over Hampton.

The redshirt freshman also caught an 11-yard touchdown pass and ripped off a 70-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter.

With Monmouth sitting atop the CAA standings at 5-0 in conference play, Smith is doing more than collecting individual honors.

He's helping the Hawks keep their championship hopes rolling.

What's Next? CAA Football Week 9 Has A Big One

Two of this week's award winners are about to share the same field.

Sixkiller and Campbell travel to face La Mons and UAlbany on Saturday, Oct. 31, giving the CAA another matchup with major conference implications.

Campbell enters unbeaten in CAA play, while UAlbany is fresh off ending Rhode Island's home winning streak.

After what both players did in Week 8, their next meeting could deliver another memorable performance.
