Super Region 3 Is Stacked: What We Learned In Week 8 Of D2 Football

Just like every other week of action, Week 8 taught us D2 football lovers a lot. Here are five things I gathered across the dozens of games on the gridiron.

#1 Ferris State Football vs #12 Michigan Tech Highlights | 2026 GLIAC Football2:49

Week 8 of D2 football was, yet again, a movie. Saginaw Valley State beat No. 16 Grand Valley State Football in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1984-85; No. 10 Northwood was nearly knocked off by Ohio Dominican, and No. 1 Ferris State is, of course, still perfect.

Just like every other week of action, Week 8 taught us D2 football lovers a lot. Here are five things I gathered across the dozens of games on the gridiron.

Ferris State Is Still The Team To Beat

Although I’m sure every D2 football team would disagree, we here at FloCollege cannot get enough of Ferris State.

The nation’s No. 1 team downed No. 12 Michigan Tech 27-20 in Week 8, extending their win streak to a nation-leading 38 games. Although Wyatt Bower left early in the game, the Bulldogs dominated with Chase Carter at QB, who went 11-for-23 for 122 yards and two touchdowns and led the team in rushing with 23 carries for 134 yards.

The ‘Dogs will take on another undefeated team in Week 9 as they host No. 9 Davenport at Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids, Mich.

Gunnar Hensley Deserves His Spot On Top Of D2

Augustana (SD) quarterback Gunnar Hensley has sat at the top of Division II’s passing yardage leaderboard for the majority of the 2026 season, and it doesn’t seem like he’s planning on giving that spot up anytime soon.

The Vikings Team Captain has thrown for a nation-leading 2,768 passing yards and 25 touchdowns this season, tying for No. 2 in D2 in the latter. He leads the division with 346 passing yards per game and ranks ninth in passing efficiency with a rating of 172.92 (191-for-188, 4 INT).

Hensley solidified his position with a dominant performance in Week 8. He completed 18 of 23 passes for 244 yards and two touchdowns.

The 10 Remaining Perfect Teams Are Here To Stay… Until Week 9

After Week 7 of D2 football, 10 teams in D2 were perfect. After Week 8 of D2 football, 10 teams in D2 were perfect. I would say that this could be a pretty cool trend until the postseason, but the perfect Davenport Panthers face Ferris State in Week 9, so there will be, at most, nine perfect teams. Easy math, right?

Here are the Week 8 results from the remaining undefeated teams.

No. 1 Ferris State def. No. 12 Michigan Tech, 27-20

No. 2 Harding def. Arkansas-Monticello, 56-17

No. 3 CSU Pueblo def. Fort Lewis, 27-21

No. 4 Kutztown def. West Chester, 41-14

No. 5 Slippery Rock def. Lock Haven, 66-7

No. 6 Minnesota State def. Wayne State (NE), 35-0

No. 7 Western Colorado def. Black Hills State, 42-10

No. 8 Northwood def. Ohio Dominican, 37-35

No. 9 Davenport def. Wayne State (MI), 49-0

No. 10 Emporia State def. Central Missouri, 58-38

NPI Rankings = Slightly Less Confusing

The NCAA Power Index Rankings, or NPI, can be confusing. But don’t worry, I broke down how the rankings work last week.

Here’s where every playoff-worthy team stands in the latest D2 football NPI rankings:

Super Region 3 Is STACKED

If you take one look at the NPI rankings, you’ll know this. The Midwest-based Super Region has always been dominant, but this season seems especially scary: four of the top 10 teams listed are undefeated, and 70% rank in the NPI top 25.

Only eight teams in each Super Region make the playoffs, and every team in Super Region 3 is going to be fighting for a spot.
