If you’re not entertained yet, you might need to reassess your interests.

Week 4 of D2 football brought conference play, chaos and crazy scores. With upsets, near-80-point games and undefeated records, there was nothing to complain about. Well, unless your team was upset or blemished their once-undefeated record. Then you can complain a lot.

Anyways. Here’s a summary of what we learned in Week 4 of D2 football:

Conference Season Is Chaotic

My heart rate was above average all of Saturday (and no, it wasn’t the excess of caffeine). There were eight upsets in the top 25, at least two overtime games, and a whole lot of bye weeks.

No. 7 Northwest Missouri State was upset 19-14 by Central Oklahoma; No. 8 Findlay dropped a 34-11 decision to No. 11 Northwood and teams ranked No. 13 through 18 all lost to unranked opponents.

Mars Hill = Really Good

I talked about Mars Hill a lot last week, and I don’t think I want to stop.

In Week 3 of D2 football, we learned that Mars Hill = Good. They upset Lenoir-Rhyne 15-7 on the road to go 2-0 in the SAC and 3-0 overall. Defense shined in Week 3 as the Lions held the Bears to 16 rushing yards and tied a program-record seven sacks.

In Week 4, we learned that Mars Hill = Really Good. I had the No. 15 Carson-Newman vs. Mars Hill matchup on my upset watch, and I’m very proud to say that I predicted the coup correctly. The Lions upset the ranked Eagles 10-6, once again, on the road. The defensive efforts of Mars Hill stifled C-N, holding the offense to just 178 rushing yards, compared to the 333.8 average they posted through the first four weeks of competition. The nation’s fifth-ranked rush defense has yet to allow a rushing touchdown in 2026.

Northwood Is Legit

Following Week 1 of the 2026 season, FloCollege placed Northwood at No. 17 in our Top 25. They moved up to No. 11 after Week 2 and stayed there in Week 3. Other national polls ranked them at No. 25, then at No. 23. This contrast tells us two things: 1. Northwood is good, and 2. FloCollege knows ball.

In Week 4, Northwood opened G-MAC play at No. 8 Findlay. They shocked the D2 community by escaping with an unblemished record (4-0, 2-0) and a 34-11 upset. Quarterback Ethan Hamby was nearly perfect, throwing 28-for-31 for 273 yards and three touchdowns. The redshirt-junior now holds every passing record at Northwood aside from career passing yards, which he is a mere 223 yards away from capturing (4,578-4,345).
