As the leaves begin to change and the air turns crisp, one thing remains constant: football.
Conference play begins for many teams this week while others get a much-needed bye (I’m looking at you, Pittsburg State).

Week 4 of the 2026 D2 season is upon us. Here are 5 predictions for the weekend, courtesy of D2 Football Insider Cristiana Rosa.
Five Wins
Some of these wins are expected; one of these would be an upset. Regardless, here are five teams I think will win in Week 4:
Mars Hill (vs. Carson-Newman)
This game is on Cristiana’s upset watch. Carson-Newman is ranked No. 15 in the FloCollege D2 Football Rankings, and surprisingly, Mars Hill is nowhere to be found. The Lions took down conference opponent Lenoir-Rhyne on the road in Week 3 and won 15-7. Their defense held L-R to just 16 rushing yards and to zero points until the fourth quarter. Mars Hill is undefeated overall and undefeated in the SAC, just like their ranked rival Carson-Newman.
Central Washington (vs. Sul Ross State)
Big win versus No. 10 Western Oregon, close losses to FCS Cal Poly and No. 1 Ferris State. Central Washington is finally getting into mid-season form, and that will continue with a win over Sul Ross State in Week 4.
North Greenville (at Ferrum)
Unranked in our poll, but ranked in our hearts. RV North Greenville just beat West Alabama 24-14 on the road. They have two prior wins this season, too, defeating Catawba 40-38 in Salisbury, N.C. and University of Charleston 42-31 at home. They’re riding their momentum into a Week 4 win against Ferrum College (Ferrum, Va.).
Truman State (at Indianapolis)
Both teams are 1-3 overall, but Truman State secured a 42-14 win over Missouri S&T to open GLVC play. The Bulldogs may be playing at UIndy, but I think they will beat the Greyhounds.
Colorado School of Mines (at Chadron State)
A win, two losses and a tie - oh, my! Mines needs this win to go undefeated in the RMAC, a record that began in Week 3 with a 34-2 win versus Fort Lewis. Chadron State hosts the conference foe after back-to-back losses against ranked RMAC opponents (No. 8 Western Colorado, 9-30; No. 5 CSU Pueblo, 6-33).
Four Losses
As much as I would love to rally for the Timberwolves, someone has to lose in the No. 8 Findlay vs. No. 11 Northwood matchup. Both teams are coming off big W’s (Findlay vs. Kentucky Wesleyan, 64-0; Northwood vs. Hillsdale, 10-7), and both teams are undefeated. The only difference? Northwood has to play Findlay on Oilers’ turf on Homecoming. Unfortunately, I don’t see Northwood going back to Midland, Mich. with a shiny new W.
Three other teams I believe will add a loss to their schedule are Angelo State (vs. Western Oregon), West Texas A&M (vs. Midwestern State) and Ohio Dominican (at Lake Erie College).
Three Perfect Teams
Just 24 D2 teams boast an undefeated record as we head into the fourth and fifth games of the season.
There will be more than three teams that stay perfect (at least I hope so). I already predicted a continuation of perfection for Findlay, but here are three additional teams I predict will add another W to their perfect marks:
Harding (at Ouachita Baptist)
Northwest Missouri State (at Central Oklahoma)
CSU-Pueblo (vs. Colorado Mesa)
Two Upsets
Upsets are good for the soul, as long as it isn’t your team taking the fall.
RV Walsh (3-0) vs. Ashland (1-3)
In the most recent FloCollege D2 Football Rankings, the Walsh Cavaliers received votes from our team, thanks to their undefeated record and 28-7 G-MAC win vs. Lake Erie College. This week, Walsh hosts Ashland, who sits at 1-2 on the season. The two losses came from ranked opponents Indiana (Pa.) (34-24) and Grand Valley State (20-10). Last week, Ashland closed out its first stretch of home games with a 24-3 win versus Ohio Dominican in Week 3. Although Walsh is on home turf, I think the Ashland Eagles will get back into rhythm with a win this weekend.
Sioux Falls (3-1) vs. No. 4 Minnesota State Mankato (4-0)
Call me crazy, but Sioux Falls can pull this off. Their only loss was a 3-point decision in Week 0. They won in overtime twice, and their other win was a 31-0 shutout at Jamestown. In Week 4, Sioux Falls hosts Minnesota State - a team that has not yet played a ranked opponent.
One Shutout
Listen, I’m as “meh” about this matchup as you are. After all, why is D2 powerhouse and four-time National Champion No. 1 Ferris State hosting NAIA Kentucky Christian?
Anyway, I think the Bulldogs will shut out the Knights on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 3 p.m. EST. The outing will be similar to what Grand Valley State did to their NAIA opponent Judson last weekend, if not more aggressive.
KCU has three losses as they head into Saturday’s matchup: a 24-75 decision at FCS Morehead State; a 7-78 loss at FCS Chicago State and a much closer 28-39 loss against Faulkner (AL) in the team’s home opener.
Ferris State, on the other hand, is fresh off a bye week and looking to extend their 33-game win streak. I don’t think Ferris State will allow more than a field goal in this matchup - if that.
