The Seawolves piled up 519 yards of offense, including 321 on the ground, and scored seven rushing touchdowns against a Rhode Island team picked to win the CAA in the preseason. CJ Hester led the way with four rushing touchdowns, while Jeremiah Coney added three.
Stony Brook took control with 21 points in the second quarter to build a 28-17 halftime lead and never gave it back. James Dely added one of the biggest plays of the second half with a 69-yard touchdown reception as the Seawolves pulled away.
Rhode Island quarterback Tyler Budge finished with 209 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception, while Marquis Buchanan caught seven passes for 124 yards and a touchdown.
