The 2026 football season continues. As the second week of the season prepares to kickoff on Sept. 12, one of the most underrated matchups takes place in Alabama.

At Terry Bunn Field at Tiger Stadium, the Pittsburg State Gorillas will take on the West Alabama Tigers for an old school MIAA/GSC matchup.

Both these teams are on the hunt for a win. West Alabama heads in to the contest 2-0, while Pitt State is looking for it's first win in 2026.

With so much action getting ready to kick off on FloCollege this weekend, here are the top reason why fans should tune in to Pittsburg State vs. West Alabama.

1.) A First Time For Everything - Especially In Football

For the first time in 2026, the Tigers and the Gorillas will square off in a head to head matchup. These two squads have never met up in the regular season or otherwise and with similar playing styles across the board, it will be interesting to see how the score looks.

West Alabama has been on the hot streak recently, averaging 35 points per game, so Pittsburg State will have to be on their A game in order to pull off a win in Livingston.

2.) Pittsburg State Is Looking For Win No. 1

It comes without saying if you follow D2 football that this is not the ideal start that most Pitt State fans had in mind for 2026.

The Gorillas are 0-2 heading in to the second true week of play, not counting Week 0 and they are looking for answers especially in the offensive rooms.

Pitt State has only averaged roughly 12.0 points a game so far and the MIAA pre-season favorites will have to work hard to pick up this win over a hot West Alabama.

Fortunately in the Gorillas favor, the defense has been explosive in key moments. The Pitt State defense has 8 sacks collectively on the 2026 season and that number will only continue to grow as the season goes.

3.) West Alabama Is On the Hunt For A Spot In The FloCollege Rankings

West Alabama is the team on everyone's radar in Week 2. The Tigers are finally at home to take on Pitt State and this team had played 'all gas, no brakes' so far in 2026.

The most impressive win so far has been against Lenoir-Rhyne. West Alabama took a 34-23 victory on Sept. 5 and the Tigers proved that they could be the favorites to sneak in with an at-large bid and represent the Gulf South in the post-season if the playoffs started today.

In the contest against Lenoir-Rhyne, the Tigers put up a whopping 201 passing yards and were in control of the ball game from the start with a final time on field of 32:36.

Quarterback Luther Richesson was 22 for 31 on completion attempts with two passing touchdowns. On the recieving end, Jayoln York led the way with 77 yards on 6 receptions.

This West Alabama teams has a fire lit and for the Tigers fan's they are hoping it doesn't go away soon.
