West Alabama forced five turnovers and overcame 449 yards of Lenoir-Rhyne offense to earn a 34-23 road win and improve to 2-0.

West Alabama didn't need to outgain Lenoir-Rhyne to leave Hickory with a win. The Tigers just needed to keep taking the ball away.

West Alabama beat Lenoir-Rhyne 34-23 on Saturday, forcing five turnovers to improve to 2-0. The Tigers picked off Wells Bettenhausen three times and recovered two LR fumbles, overcoming a Bears offense that piled up 449 total yards.

Lenoir-Rhyne rushed for 291 yards, led by LJ Turner's 148 yards and two touchdowns and Eddie Clark's 107 yards and a score.

Legend Doggett provided the biggest turnover of the day, returning an interception 80 yards for a touchdown to seal the win late in the fourth quarter.

    West Alabama headed to Hickory and took down the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears. The Tigers' defense created five turnovers throughout the day, scoring on two of them. LR were unable to replicate the success they had one week ago against Virginia Union and will start the season 1-1.

    Tigers Pick Off Bears Again For TD

    Legend Doggett jumps and picks off Bettenhausen and takes it to the house for the touchdown. That's Doggett's second touchdown of the game for the Tigers' defense, and the fifth turnover of the day for Lenoir-Rhyne. 

    That should pretty much seal the game for the Tigers. The UWA defense has been on fire all day.

    The Tigers capitalize on the interception and convert a field goal. They are up four points with about five minutes left in this game.

    Wells Bettenhausen's pass is popped up and intercepted by Issaiah Parrish, and that's the second drive in a row that the Tigers have created a turnover. It's also the fourth turnover of the day for the LR Bears.

    LR's Shermon Davis loses the ball, and Legend Doggett scoops it up for the touchdown. West Alabama retakes the lead with only eight minutes left in the fourth quarter. That's the third turnover of the day by the Bears.

    LJ Turner Breaks Off Run, Scores

    Turner, for the second time today, broke off a massive run, going 76 yards for the touchdown. LR retakes the lead once again. Most of the third quarter was forgettable, with a lot of punting, but the Bears start off the fourth quarter with a bang.
