New Coaches Headline the Teams
It's the season of new beginnings, with both teams introducing two new head coaches to their programs.
A UNH veteran is the center of focus for the Wildcats. Sean Goldrich stepped into the position with hopes of leading the Wildcats to a CAA title. As a former Wildcat himself, Goldrich already owns two CAA titles after leading the team to wins on the field as their starting quarterback. He now steps onto the sidelines of a turf he knows well. Only returning to the Wildcats in December of 2025, he is not new to the coaching side of the CAA, with a previous coaching stint at Delaware.
After earning the Susquehanna River Hawks 4 consecutive Landmark Titles and reaching the No. 6 rank nationally, Coach Tom Perkovich opens up his first game as a Great Dane on Friday. With 10 years at Susquehanna, Perkovich has over 20 years of coaching experience.
Star Players Myles Thomasen and Rahshan La Mons Ready to Shine
With Perkovich's move to UAlbany, he brought with him four of his star players from Susquehanna - one of whom is Rahshan La Mons.
During La Mons' first two years as a River Hawk, he earned himself Landmark Rookie of the Year and First Team All-Landmark. His freshman year he totaled 1,613 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns. He followed up the next year with 905 yards and 12 touchdowns. Turning to division 1 level football, he will be sure to make waves as a Great Dane.
The season has not even started, but UNH's Myles Thomasen will is already racking in the awards. He was nominated as a preseason All-American and All-CAA selection ahead of the 2026 season.
Returning for his fifth year as a Wildcat, the running back ranked 8th in the CAA in rushing yards with 736 and an average of 56.62 per game.
The teams' best running backs will face off against each other as they play their first CAA matchup of the year.
UNH Ready to Prove the FCS Poll Wrong
The UNH Wildcats may not have been ranked in the top 25 of the FCS Preseason poll, but they did not go unnoticed. They were the first ones out of the top 25 after receiving 35 points.
UAlbany might not help them move up because they are not close to being ranked, but any win can help the Wildcats' case to be a part of the 25.
Regardless if they move up this week or next, their first game will be a good test to see where they will land against their fellow FCS schools.
