The 2025 D2 football playoff bracket wasn't just one story, it was four different ones happening simultaneously. Last year, one ended in chaos, one in a gauntlet, one in order, and one in inevitability. The only thing they had in common was where they finished.

This summer, as we peer across the horizon and try to get a lay of the land, we can take stock in some things that the playoffs told us. The rest is open to interpretation or just plain chaotic.
Late June is one of the worst times to evaluate where these teams are headed, and with West Florida throwing a wrench in the schedule, we still don't have a single source of truth for the entire D2 football schedule. There were a whole host of transfers, lots of talent moving in and out of D2, and there are freshmen we won't know, a la Jeffery Jones, until they break out.
What we do know is none of this is new and Division 2 football schools have a good track record of weathering the storm. Here's the state of each super region.
How To Watch D2 Football In 2026
Hundreds of Division 2 football games will stream live on FloCollege and the FloSports app.
Game replays, highlights and breaking news will also be available on both platforms.
Super Region 1: The Wide Open Region
- The vibe: Survive and advance.
- The favorite: Kutztown
- The biggest threat: Virginia Union, Johnson C. Smith
- The best quarterback: Judd Novak (Kutztown)
- Other names to watch: JayJay Jordan (Slippery Rock); Jordan Brooks (Frostburg State); Nino Marzullo (Fairmont State); Parker McQuarrie (Johnson C. Smith); Fabian Duncan (Johnson C. Smith)
- Best defense: Kutztown. They allowed only 14 pts/game last season.
- Most underrated team: Frostburg State, California PA
- What makes this region unique? Parity. After Kutztown, it's a revolving cast of contenders. Will Charleston return to form, will Johnson C. Smith and Frostburg maintain momentum?
Super Region 2: The Elimination Gauntlet Region
- The vibe: The power vacuum left by West Florida.
- The favorite: Albany State
- The biggest threat: Newberry, Wingate, Valdosta State, and whichever other SAC team decides it's their year.
- The best quarterback: Tre Robinson (UNC Pembroke)
- Other names to watch: Brice Koontz (UNC Pembroke); Miles Scott (Morehouse); Champ Harris (Valdosta State); Haden Klees (Valdosta State)
- Best defense: Albany State allowed only 258 yds/game last season.
- Most underrated team: Newberry, Delta State, UNC Pembroke
- What makes this region unique? Chaos. West Florida leaving for FCS helped trigger the Gulf South losing its automatic qualifier. SAC teams pummel each other every year. Conference Carolinas is still settling in. Albany State has a wildly good defense. UNC Pembroke has Tre Robinson.

Super Region 3: The Chalk Region
- The vibe: Status quo.
- The favorite: Ferris State
- The biggest threat: Basically every team ranked in the Super Region rankings late last year, plus GVSU.
- The best quarterback: Wyatt Bower (Ferris State)
- Other names to watch: Andrew Schuster (Grand Valley State); Ethan Hamby (Northwood); Garrett Sherrell (UIndy)
- Best defense: Ferris State, Findlay, Ashland
- Most underrated team: UIndy, Northwood, Findlay, too many to name.
- What makes this region unique? One of the most stacked Super Regions also happens to be the one that is led by the back-to-back champions, who have also won four of the last five.
Super Region 4: The Styles Make Fights Region
- The vibe: Wild, wild west.
- The favorite: Harding
- The biggest threat: CWU, NW Missouri State, Pueblo, Pittsburg
- The best quarterback: Joseph Capra (Colorado School of Mines) with Jett Huff (UCO) and Zechariah Owens (Northwest Missouri State) staring him down.
- Other names to watch: Andrew Miller (Harding); Aidan Thompson (Chadron State); Gage Baker (South Dakota Mines); Donnie Smith (Northeastern State)
- Best defense: Harding, NW Missouri
- Most underrated team: UT Permian Basin, Western Oregon
- What makes this region unique? Super Region 4 lost a massive amount of quarterback talent, either through graduation or transfer. Funnily enough, the team at the top runs the flexbone triple option.
