By the time Ferris State wrapped up the 2025 D2 National Championship title, having gone an undefeated 16-0, only three teams had really pushed them in a respective game, and the top two were divisional opponents.
Saginaw Valley State came the closest, taking Ferris State to double overtime on Nov. 8 before falling 51-45. Grand Valley State was right there, too, losing by just seven points in the Anchor-Bone Classic, 38-31. Tiffin also made Ferris State work early in the season, keeping things within one score in a 41-34 loss.

After that, though, the Bulldogs were rarely threatened. Ferris State won 13 of its 16 games by double digits, including every game in the NCAA Division 2 Playoffs. Their postseason run was especially convincing, with wins over Northwood, Ashland, Minnesota State, Newberry and Harding coming by an average margin of more than 28 points.
For now, at least in our way-too-early rankings, it's Ferris State, then everyone else. Beyond the Bulldogs, there are some interesting spots to unpack. Harding is pinned at No. 2, without a doubt. As they themselves had an all-world season, going 15-1 and losing only to Ferris.
Findlay lands in the top 10 after a strong season, while Western Oregon, Johnson C. Smith, Chadron State and Frostburg State all crack the top 25. Newberry is the obvious debate team after reaching the national semifinals, but the Wolves land in the back half because this ranking weighs the full résumé, wins, scoring margin, road results and poll position, not bracket advancement alone.
