Central Washington takes on UT Permian Basin on Oct. 11. These two teams are arguable two of the best not only in the LSC as top contenders to win the contest, but also as the season starts to turn towards the playoffs.
The Falcons kept their undefeated season alive as they upset the Angelo State Rams on Oct. 4. The Wildcats are 4-1 on the season and 3-0 in LSC play.
With both of these teams bringing all they have to the table, here is a look at five players who can really make an impact in the contest on Saturday, Oct. 11.
The Buff Turned Falcon: UTPB QB Kanon Gibson
The Falcons are quite literally stacked on either side of the football this season, but offense makes the game exciting. For UT Permian Basin, junior transfer quarterback Kanon Gibson makes a lot of offense happen for the Orange and Black.
Gibson comes to the Falcons from fellow LSC opponent West Texas A&M and since stepping foot on the Permian Basin campus, he has made his presence known. The Falcon is currently fifth in the LSC standings in passing with a 65.4 pass completion percentage. On the season, Gibson averages roughly 227 passing yards a game.
The Central Washington Starter: CWU QB Kennedy McGill
The Wildcats currently tally roughly 448 yards of offense per game. That can't be a coincidence. Offense means power and the Wildcats have power in their starting quarterback.
Redshirt junior Kennedy McGill sits at the helm of the CWU offense. McGill currently leads the conference in rushing yards averaging roughly 74.8 yards per game. Central Washington as a team also leads the LSC in office averaging over 50 points per game.
Exline Excels In Defense: UTPB LB Tristan Exline
UT Permian Basin not only is excelling on offense, but also on the defensive side of the turf. One name sticks out above the rest for the Falcons. That name is Tristan Exline.
The junior linebacker is an all out defensive weapon for the Falcons. Exline leads the LSC in tackles for loss with seven solo and one assist on the 2025 season. The linebacker also is fifth in the conference for sacks with three on the season.
The King of Defense For CWU: DL Tyler King
Defense wins championships is the saying that most believe in, but for the Wildcats, Tyler King holds the crown for defense. King currently tops the LSC in sacks with five attributed to his stat sheet.
The Wildcat is also the second in the LSC for tackles for loss. King has accumulated six solo tackles for loss and two assists on the season.
The Leg To Stand On: UTPB Kicker Angel Diaz
It's not often that a kicker will be on a top-five players to watch, but the Falcons have a great one in the leg of Angel Diaz. The sophomore kicker is fifth in the LSC in scoring with six field goals and 19 extra points for 37 total points scored on the season.
Diaz also is third in the conference in the scoring for kicks category going 19-for-21 on PAT attempts and makes. His field ratio is 6-for-9 and the kicker averages almost eight points per game.
