The meeting Saturday at UAlbany’s Bob Ford Field at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium was the 27th tussle between the two programs, with UAlbany now holding a 15-12 advantage all-time.

The contest also was an important piece of the Coastal Athletic Association picture for the two teams, which both started conference play with a loss.
With the victory, Stony Brook is 3-3 overall and 1-1 in CAA action, while UAlbany falls to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in conference games.
After the first half Saturday, Stony Brook headed to the locker room clinging to a 10-6 advantage.
The Seawolves held UAlbany to just 126 yards in the first half and kept the Great Danes out of the end zone across the first two quarters for their second straight game.
Stony Brook exploded after the break, however, and a 216-yard first-half performance became a 473-yard final tally.
Using a no-huddle offense, it took the Seawolves less than two minutes to march 75 yards for their first score of their 21-point third quarter, and they never looked back.
Graduate quarterback Chris Zellous did it all for Stony Brook, completing 20 of 30 passes for 241 yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for 31 net yards on 10 carries, three of which finished in the end zone.
Graduate running back Roland Dempster was the leading rusher for Stony Brook, grabbing 105 yards and a touchdown on 20 attempts. He has eclipsed 100 yards on the ground in five of the team’s six games this year.
Dez Williams, a redshirt senior wide receiver, led the Stony Brook receiving corps on Saturday, pulling in six passes for 87 yards and a score that was part of the third-quarter surge.
Junior quarterback Colin Parachek got the start for UAlbany in place of injured senior Jack Shields for the second consecutive week.
Parachek was 5 for 18 for 82 yards and threw the game’s only interception. Sophomore Aidan Semo also contributed to the UAlbany effort, completing 3 of 5 passes for 66 yards and a 47-yard touchdown strike to graduate wide receiver Jasiah Barron in the fourth quarter.
Stony Brook held UAlbany to just 50 rushing yards, with no player getting more than 13. The Seawolves had two sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery in the win.
Last season, Stony Brook reclaimed the Golden Apple at home with a 24-6 victory, after UAlbany won in 2022 and 2023, once in each location.
Up next for Stony Brook is a trip to Monmouth on Oct. 18 for the second of seven consecutive CAA games.
UAlbany also has next week off and will have a chance to regroup before hosting Rhode Island on Oct. 18 for another CAA showdown.
