How To Watch New Haven vs. UAlbany Football 2025

The new era of UAlbany Great Danes has started with a pair of losses, but now they can pick up their first win of 2025 at home. Here’s what to know.

It would be easy for the UAlbany Great Danes to return home this week with their tails between their legs after a pair of losses to start their 2025 campaign, but the season’s still young, and they have a couple weeks to tighten things up before the start of conference play.

UAlbany also has many things to look forward to Saturday for the team’s home opener, which will come against FCS newcomer New Haven in their first meeting in almost four decades.

The two will battle at Bob Ford Field at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium in Albany, New York, on Saturday at 7 p.m. Eastern, live on FloFootball.

This will be the fourth meeting between the two teams, but the first since 1986, when UAlbany interim head coach Jared Ambrose barely was old enough to be playing Pop Warner youth football.

Ambrose, who was named the UAlbany interim head coach in March 2025, previously served as the team's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach (from 2022) and associate head coach (from 2023).

His time at the helm, however, began with a pair of tough losses, though the Great Danes already have shown improvement, despite an 0-2 start to Ambrose’s tenure.

UAlbany wasted no time testing itself this year, kicking off the campaign on the road against Big Ten/FBS powerhouse Iowa, in what turned out to be a 34-7 loss.

The second week of their season featured a trip east to Delaware, where the Great Danes came up just short against Delaware State, falling 37-32.

On the bright side, Ambrose now has the opportunity to pick up his first victory in front the team’s home fans, while being the third team this year to offer New Haven a not-so-warm welcome to the NCAA Division I level.

The Chargers opened the season with losses to Marist University (31-14) and Mercyhurst University (48-14).

New Haven is coming off an 8-3 final season of Division II play, which ended with a 14-7 loss to Slippery Rock in the first round of the 2024 NCAA Division II Football Championship.

Last season, UAlbany was 4-8 overall and 2-6 in Coastal Athletic Association play, after winning a share of the CAA title in 2023.

In their all-time series, New Haven owns a 2-1 record against UAlbany, picking up wins in 1984 (24-7) and 1986 (45-28) after losing in their first meeting in 1981 (36-6).

Will the Great Danes even the series after almost 40 years? Will the Chargers pick up their first Division I victory? Either way, one team will get its first win in 2025!
