Maine Football Schedule 2023: What To Know

Maine Football gets ready for the 2023 season in which the Black Bears hope to improve from a two-win campaign in 2022.

Aug 4, 2023 by Aidan Browne

After a dismal 2022 season where Maine Football finished with a record of 2-9, the team is hoping to turn things around in 2023.

Following the departure of former head coach Nick Charlton, who left for UCONN in 2021, Yale defensive coordinator Jordan Stevens was given his first ever head coaching opportunity at Maine.

The Temple, ME. native had a tough first season at the helm but is looking to lead the Black Bears to their first playoff appearance since 2018, when they made it all the way to the FCS semifinals.

Things didn’t get any easier for Stevens in the offseason as last year’s starting quarterback, Joe Fagnano, transferred to UConn.

Stevens will now have to make a big decision about who will be under center for the 2023 season.

Maine doesn’t have many experienced quarterbacks with real in-game experience except for senior Derek Robertson, who started seven games in 2021.

To make things even harder for the Black Bears, they will start the first two weeks of the season on the road against two very tough teams.

Maine will begin the season against FBS program FIU in Miami before traveling to Fargo to face North Dakota State. NDS is a program that’s won nine national championships since 2011.

Maine will also face both CAA co-champions from last season, New Hampshire and William & Mary.
