A new age of Campbell football is underway after officially joining the CAA on July 1, 2023.

Campbell left the Big South Conference for the CAA along with North Carolina A&T. 

The Fighting Camels are hoping to improve in their new conference after struggling in 2022 and finishing the season with a record of 5-6. 

The man in charge of leading Campbell in their first CAA season is Mike Minter. 

Minter, who played safety for the Panthers for his entire 10-year NFL career, is heading into his 11th season in charge of the program.

Eleven CAA Football Players Recognized On AP FCS All-America Football Team

Luckily Minter has an experienced quarterback, redshirt senior Hajj-Malik Williams, to help lead the team into its new conference. In 2022, Williams threw for 2,221 yards and 12 touchdowns. 

If the Fighting Camels want to find success in their new competitive conference, they will likely have to rely heavily on Williams.

Campbell Faces Tough Week 9 Matchup With UNC Football

Campbell will face its toughest test of the year when the team heads to Chapel Hill, N.C. to play North Carolina on Nov. 4. 

UNC has one of the best quarterbacks in the nation in Drake Maye. Maye is projected to be one of the first quarterbacks selected in the 2024 NFL Draft, meaning the Fighting Camels will have their hands full.

Campbell also opens the season up against last year's Co-CAA champion William & Mary.
