High School Football America 100

Mater Dei Remains No. 1, Three Texas Teams Ready & Waiting

With one month to go until the 2021 High School Football America national champ is crowned, Mater Dei (California) continues to control its destiny. However, if the Monarchs slip-up, there are three Texas high school football teams in the Top 5 waiting to ascend to the top spot.

With one month to go until the 2021 High School Football America national champ is crowned, Mater Dei (California) continues to control its destiny. However, if the Monarchs slip-up, there are three Texas high school football teams in the Top 5 waiting to ascend to the top spot.

The next hurdle for Mater Dei in its journey for a third national title in five years is a rematch with arch-rival Servite for the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 title. Servite moves-up twelve spots to No. 6 in the latest High School Football America 100, powered by NFL Play Football, after beating former No. 3 St. John Bosco in the division semifinals.

When these Southern California heavyweights met on October 23, the two went toe-to-toe before Mater Dei beat Servite 46-37. The last time Servite beat Mater Dei, in their series that dates back to 1961, was during the 2011 season.

Mater Dei hasn't moved an inch from its preseason No. 1 ranking, but neither has Westlake at No. 2. The two-time defending Texas state champs are on a 36-game win streak heading into this weekend's Class 6A Division II regional semifinal against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North (PSJA).

Texas fans are already looking ahead two rounds. If Westlake keeps winning and so does No. 5 Katy, the Chaparrals and Tigers will meet in the state semifinals.

Let's not forget about Southlake Carroll at No. 3 in the latest rankings that are created with the HSFA proprietary algorithm. The Dragons lost to Westlake in last year's 6A Division I championship.

The last Texas team to win a High School Football America national championship was the Allen Eagles, who won three straight titles from 2012 through 2014.

Bergen Catholic in New Jersey is also in the mix. The Crusaders move-up two spots this week to No. 4.

BC will play arch-rival Don Bosco Prep Saturday for the Non-Public A state championship. During the regular season, the undefeated Crusaders shutout Bosco 17-0 on September 24.

The BC/DBP game will be played at MetLife Stadium, home of the NFL's New York Giants and New York Jets.
