Mater Dei Exacts Revenge, Regains Top Spot
Sure hope everyone who wrote Mater Dei off a few weeks ago did so in pencil.
The Monarchs exacted revenge against the only team to beat them this season, knocking off No. 2 St. John Bosco (CA), 17-13, in the CIF Southern Section title game last week.
Mater Dei (CA) is a win away from locking up our 2018 Flo25 Private School National Championship.
Elsewhere, University Lab (LA) continued its dominant march, advancing to the LHSAA championship round with a 43-14 victory over De La Salle (LA), while Gonzaga (MD) completed its run of redemption, defeating DeMatha (MD) in the WCAC final one week after upsetting then-No. 2 St. John's (DC).
For what it's worth, the Cadets will still finish the year ranked ahead of Gonzaga. Why? Because we still believe St. John's is the better team, with the better resume, and it's extremely difficult to beat a team twice.
