125 - #10 Sam Latona, Virginia Tech wbd Zurich Storm, 5-3

1st period: Underway now with Sam Latona making his VT debut!  Storm fired a great single to Latona's right leg, clubs him too the mat, but Latona passes the leg to avoid the takedown.  Tony Robie is going to challenge for an illegal cutback.  2:01 to go as the refs are taking a look.  1 point for an illegal cut back given and it's 1-0 Latona.  Hand fighting in the center, Latona fires a half shot but can't get through. 1:15 to go. Latona so much taller than Storm.  Double from Storm and a QUICK finish gets Storm two at the end of the first!  2-1 Storm after 1!

2nd Period: Latona goes under, nice mat return from Storm, but Latona cuts away to make it 2-2, very little riding time. Latona really having a hard time breaking through Storm's positioning, tried to get to underhooks but Storm is super solid.  1 minute to go. Beautiful single from Latona, switches to a double but somehow Storm gets out!  I don't know how he did that, now Latona trying to finish a single on the edge and is going to run out of time!  Huge exchange and it's 2-2 going into the 3rd.

3rd Period: Storm goes under.  Latona is solid on top usually.  Storm gets away and it's 3-2 Storm, RT not a factor. Another shot from Latona and this time he finishes the double leg to take a 4-3 lead.  Now Campbell going to challenge for a reversal as Storm nearly pulled a headlock as Latona was trying to roll through on a tilt.  Storm still underneath with 1 minute to go.  Storm still underneath after a nice return from Latona, RT over a minute now for Latona. Now just 5 seconds to go.  Latona rides out fro the 5-3 win with riding time.

133 - #8 Korbin Myers, Virginia Tech wbd Gabe Hixenbaugh, 4-1

1st Period: Underway now, good position from both in the first 30 seconds.  Pretty cool to see Korbin Myers come back for a 6th season for VT.  Shot by Myers with a re-attack from Hixenbaugh but nothing doin.  Deep single for Myers but good hips from Hix stops the attack.  Pretty High crotch by Myers, scoops the ankle, doubles off and finishes for the 2-0 lead.  Myers breaks him flat and gets the ride out. 2-0 after 1.

2nd Period: Myers goes under.  Quick escape to make it 3-0.  Myers stabbing and faking on the outside and HIxenbaugh gets warned for stalling. Hix fires off a sweep but cant get in.  Single for Myers, tries to come out the backdoor but Hix traps the arm and that's how the 2nd will end.

3rd Period: Hix goes under.  RT approaching 1 minute for Myers.  Now over a minute with 90 to go in the match.  Nice mat return by Myers and Hix is once again flat.Hixenbaugh escapes and it's 3-1 Myers but he has RT.  Another sweep from Hixenbaugh but that's how it'll end.  4-1 Myers.

141 - Sam Hillegas, Virginia Tech WBF Shannon Hanna, Campbell

1st Period:  Here we go at 141. Hard club and Hanna loses his headgear, fixing that.  Hanna a transfer from ODU.  Hillegas making his VT debut.  Hillegas shoots but stuffed by Hanna and we remain scoreless. Beautiful double by Hanna and he blows through Hillegas for 2.  HIllegas out quickly and it's 2-1 Hanna. Hillegas moving Hanna around now and has him on the edge. Time runs out on the first and it'll be 2-1 Hanna.

2nd Period: Hanna goes neutral to start the 2nd.  Righty single by Hillegas, missed on the kick trip and doubles off for the finish to make it 3-2.  Bar on the left for Hillegas and has a leg in.  Out of bounds and we'll restart with 1:08 to go in the 2nd.  Hillegas locks up a TIGHT near side cradle and Hanna is in big, huge trouble.  Pinfall for Hillegas!  That was nice.

149 -  #20 Bryce Andonian, Virginia Tech dec #9 Josh Heil, Campbell, 12-9

1st Period: Andonian blows right through Heil in the first 3 seconds for a TD.  He gets to rear standing  on their feet, Heil takes Andonians leg and puts it on the other side of his head, it looks totally bizarre.  And Andonian is hurt, taking injury time.  He's ok, lots of pressure on the ankle.  2:36 still to go.  Andonian gives up the escape but the official waves off the 1.  Still 2-0 with 2:08 to go.Escape for Heil makes it 2-1. Andonian times the hands of Heil perfectly on a single and finishes quickly again.  4-1 and now 4-2 after Heil escapes again.  Another shot for Bryce.  No finish and there's 40 to go.  FAST double and Bryce holds Heil on his back for a two count and it's now 8-2.  What a first period by Andonian. Those NF were so fast, ha.

2nd Period: Heil goes under and gets away. He takes a High C but Andonian doing some wild counters. Andonian was actually given two, then Heil reversed, but they're going to take a look at it.  I think it should be 2 for Heil only, but I am a mere live blogger. They're waving off the TD completely.  8-3 Andonian, now 8-5 after a quick TD for Heil.  Penalty point for an illegal hold against Heil makes it 9-5.  Andonian nearly goes to his back but they go out of bounds with 55 to go. Heil breaks down Andonian but he gets away to make it 10-5.  Shot by Heil but a great job stuffing it from Andonian.  Another shot by Heil!  Crackdown position with 12 to go.  TD given and just like that it's 10-7 Andonian!  End of 2nd!

3rd Period: Andonian going under.  Heil cuts him immediately.  Double to single for Heil but Andonian holds him off.   Shot by Heil, tries to come out the back door but Andonian hits Nolf's Winn Dixie!  He gets the TD to make it 13-7.  Refs taking another look though. They wave it off because they were both in danger.  Ok so it's 11-7 with 1:15 to go. Lefty high c from Andonian but a nice pass by Heil and he's in position to score.  Nothing yet and there's the 2.  11-9 Andonian.  Crazy flurry at the end after the Andonian escape and it's a 12-9 win for Bryce Andonian.   Fantastic match.

157 - Benjamin Barton, Campbell wbd Connor Brady, Virginia Tech, 7-4

1st Period: Alright here we go!  High crotch by Brady but well defended by Barton.  No score 1 minute in. Textbook high crotch and double finish for Brady makes it 2-0.  Quick escape and it's 2-1.  Good exchange at the end but that's how it'll end.

2nd Period; Brady goes under. Nearly goes over in a tilt but he recovers.  Barton still riding very tough as we approach 1 minute. Brady gets warned for stalling, he then gets away and nearly gets a TD after the escape but good d from Barton. and it's 3-1 Brady with 20 to go. Whoa!  Quick attack by Barton makes it 3-3 right as the 2nd comes to an end.

3rd Period: Barton goes under.  Gets away and now Brady is in on a single.  Barton leads 4-3.  Barton relentless right now and gets another TD which makes it 6-3!.  RT at 1:17.  Escape by Brady but it's a 7-4 final for Barton!

165 - #1 Mekhi Lewis, Virginia Tech wmd Austin Kraisser, Campbell 12-4

1st Period: Mekhi time.  Single, to seatbelt and there's the finish for Mekhi.  2-0 Mekhi 30 seconds in.  Escape for Kraisser, he shoots, drag go behind for Mekhi who doubles off and holds Kraisser on his back for NF and it's 8-1 Mekhi.  Escape for Kraisser makes it 8-2.  Re-attack single for Mekhi, tree tops and finishes it to make it 10-2.  35 to go. Period ends 10-2 with 1:44 RT for Mekhi.

2nd Period: Kraisser goes under. Escape for Kraisser, 10-3.  Pace slowed a bit as there's only 30 to go.  That's how the 2nd will end.

3rd Period:  Mekhi goes under. Up to his feet but Kraisser drops down to a single, count begins and the ref reachese 5 for the stall warning against Kraisser. Mekhi gets a reversal to make it 12-3 and RT stays over a minute for Mekhi.  Kraisser escapes and it's 12-4.  Near TD for Mekhi off the re-attack but can't quite finish it and it's a 13-4 final with riding time for Mekhi Lewis.

174 - Austin Murphy, Campbell wbd Kolton Clark, Virginia Tech, 6-4

1st Period: TD Clark and a reversal for Murphy right away. Was a pretty inside trip from Murphy countered by a headlock from Clark. 2-2 with Murphy on top.  Leg in for Murphy and he locks up a far side cradle and takes him over for two.  4-2 no and he's looking for another cradle.  Clark escapes and it's 4-3 Murphy. Nice shot by Murphy but Clark defends.  40 to go. Single with a Barzigar attempt at the finish but no good.  Period ends 4-3 Murphy.

2nd Period: Murphy goes under.  Clark committed to the ride so far, head down for Murphy. Clark looked for an assassin on top, continuing to flatten out Murphy.  Half on the side and Murphy warned for stalling.  Murphy really not moving much I'm pretty stunned.    Double legs and power half from Clark. Still 4-3

3rd Period:  Clark goes under.  Thought he may consider top after a strong 2nd period ride out.  Grandy by Clark and he gets hands and is away.  4-4, RT at 44 for Clark.  Murphy looking to use double unders but Clark clears.  Tied up in the center with 30 to go. CLEAN double by Murphy and he finishes with 14 to go and that's it!  6-4 win for Murphy.

VT - 22

Campbell - 6

184 - #2 Hunter Bolen, Virginia Tech wbd Caleb Hopkins, 4-3

1st Period: Single in the first 2 seconds from Bolen, limp arm and there's two for Bolen.  Sheesh.  Legs in for Bolen and he's almost got a turn.  Legs are loose and Hopkins trying to get out, stalemated and he's back under.  RT over a minute already and Bolen kicks him free.  2-1 with 1:30 to go. Another sweep by Bolen, gets the back ankle and another finish makes it 4-1. Hammerlock for Bolen and that's how the first period will end.  4-1 Bolen.

2nd Period: Bolen goes under. RT at 2:22 to start the first.  Leg in for Hopkins and he's riding pretty tough.  Bolen now flat underneath.  Bar on the left side now Bolen flat with his head on the mat.  Imagine a warning is coming soon.  Hopkins a little high on top but resets.  RT now under a minute for Bolen and there's the stall warning against Bolen.  Bolen has one last attempt but can't get away.  Ride out for Hopkins.

3rd Period: Hopkins takes top. Not surprised.  Bolen explodes off the whistle but Hopkins recovers.  Had a cradle locked up briefly, this is very impressive, but also surprising as Bolen usually can get away very consistently.  Bolen gives up the stall point and it's 4-2.  RT over a minute for Hopkins!  Another stall point would tie it! Bolen hangs on for a 4-3 win but Hopkins is legit!

197 - Andy Smith Virginia Tech wbd  Levi Hopkins, Campbell, 12-7

1st Period:  Underway now and it's a quick takedown for Hopkins.  Tough ride put on early from Hopkins.  Smith gets away. Another shot from Hopkins and Smith sprawls.  Beautiful ankle pick by Smith and he gets the ride out right at the end of the first to take a 3-2 lead into the 2nd.

2nd Period: Hopkins goes under.  He's away and we're knotted at 3.  1:41 to go in the 2nd.  Hopkins pressuring in.  Pretty knee pull single by Smith, has to beat the whizzer and he does just that.  5-3 Smith and just like that it's 5-5 after a Hopkins reversal.  He locks up a nearside cradle but Smith ges out and nearly has a reversal of his own but Hopkins backs out and it's just an escape and just like that Smith is in on a single and he finishes to close out the period!  Crazy end of the 2nd as it's now 8-5 Smith.

3rd Period: Smith goes neutral.   Shot by Hopkins but Smith counters for two and it's 10-5.  Quick escape for Hopkins makes it 10-6.  Another shot from Hopkins but Smith nearly around once again.  They break free.  Now Smith runs behind and it's 12-6!  12-7 after the Hopkins escape.  Hopkins keeps shooting and Smith nearly counters again but Hopkins gets out of bounds.  12-7 the final.  Very fun match.  Smith will be a guy to watch this year as he's just a Freshman.
