CAA Has 35 Players On NFL Rosters As 2020 Season Kicks Off

As the 2020 NFL season gets underway on Thursday night, CAA Football will once again be well-represented.

There are currently 23 former CAA Football players spread across the opening day rosters of 20 different NFL teams. In addition, there are 12 players from the conference who are part of NFL practice squads.

James Madison leads all FCS schools with seven players on active NFL rosters, while Delaware is tied for second among FCS members with six players on active rosters.

Former Maine standout Patrick Ricard earned a spot in the Pro Bowl last season as a fullback with the Baltimore Ravens, while former Villanova defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon is a returning starter for the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.

There are also three NFL head coaches who are graduates of CAA Football schools – Sean McDermott of the Buffalo Bills (William & Mary), Matt Nagy of the Chicago Bears (Delaware) and Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers (William & Mary).

Massachusetts Athletics Announces Intention To Play Football In Fall 2020

The University of Massachusetts announced Monday that it intends to schedule and play a limited number of football games this fall. The decision was reached following a positive review of the football program's stringent COVID-19 safety protocols and rigorous testing regimen, in place since players' return to campus in June. It follows announcements from college football conferences across the country also returning to play this fall and reverses a department decision on August 11 to postpone football competition until the spring.
