Rested and ready, the Lumberjacks will head to Greeley, Colo., for the first of three road trips over the final five weeks of the regular season.

The ‘Jacks haven’t won at Northern Colorado since Oct. 27, 2012, but enter this contest with one of the nation’s most opportunistic defenses in the country, having forced 18 turnovers through six games—second-most in the FCS.

The Bears have faced one of the subdivision’s toughest schedules thus far, with four ranked opponents—and two others receiving votes—in its first seven games.

Quarterback Conor Regan entered the year third on the depth chart, but injuries have pushed him into a starting role, where he has performed admirably. The Santa Maria, Calif. native has passed for 737 yards and three scores in his two previous outings.

Butler Headed For The Top Of The Record Book

NAU wide receiver Emmanuel Butler heads into Saturday just seven yards shy of Clarence Moore’s program record for career receiving yards.

The former All-American and two-time first team Big Sky selection has caught 27 passes for 494 yards and four touchdowns through five games this season. He missed the Lumberjacks’ game at Missouri State—its worst defeat of the season.

Expect A Close One In Greeley

The last five games between NAU and UNC played in Greeley, Colo., have been decided by seven points or fewer, with an average margin of victory of just 4.4 points since 2008.

It would benefit the ‘Jacks to get on the board first, as NAU is 3-0 this season when it puts up the first points of the game.

‘Jacks Secondary Is A No Fly Zone

More often than not, opponents are electing to keep the ball on the ground against Northern Arizona in favor of challenging its ball hawks on the back end.

The NAU secondary has picked off a FCS best 13 interceptions this season.

Khalil Dorsey and Kam’ron Johnson lead the squad with three picks a piece, while seven of their teammates have also recorded an interception. The unit is holding opponents to just 185.2 yards per game.
