Last week was tough, but it could always be worse. Unless you’re Rutgers. If you’re Rutgers, it really couldn’t be worse.

Like water off an Oregon Duck’s back, let’s move on and make some picks.
Ohio (+4) at Northern Illinois
Saturday, Oct. 13 at 2:30 PM CT | DeKalb, Ill., Huskie Stadium
Northern Illinois has won three of four, but the Huskies have been finding the winner’s circle in spite of the complete absence of an offense.
Conversely, Ohio has shown a propensity for falling behind early and engaging itself in shootouts, what with a leaky defense that allows teams to hit them in the passing game in chunks.
Fortunately for the Bobcats, NIU can’t throw. Like, at all.
Ohio quarterback Nathan Rourke is banged up, but expected to be behind center. If he is, Frank Solich’s team is the play.
The Pick: Ohio (+4)
Oregon (+3) vs. Washington
Saturday, Oct. 13 at 2:30 PM CT | Eugene, Ore., Autzen Stadium
Oregon, not Washington, is the best team in the Pac-12. Justin Herbert, not Jake Browning, is the best quarterback in the Pac-12—and in the country, for that matter.
Mario Cristobal is well on his way to building a Ducks team that controls the line of scrimmage for a change, and they’ll do that, here, against the Huskies.
Assuming the Ducks can actually hold onto a fourth quarter lead in Autzen, it’ll be a lovely evening in Eugene.
The Pick: Oregon (+3)
Duke (+3) vs. Georgia Tech
Saturday, Oct. 13 at 11:20 AM CT | Atlanta, Ga., Bobby Dodd Stadium
This spot is tailor-made for a David Cutcliffe-led Duke team.
Georgia Tech is receiving some extra love after blasting Louisville—mostly because we’re all still trying to wrap our minds around how awful the Cardinals are.
Meanwhile, the Dukies are fresh off a bye, and have already proven they can handle the option attack in a season-opening win over Army.
With quarterback Daniel Jones back and the Blue Devils getting points, you know what to do.
The Pick: Duke (+3)
Northwestern (-3.5) vs. Nebraska
Saturday, Oct. 13 at 11 AM CT | Lincoln, Neb., Memorial Stadium
How much insight do you want, here? The only real cause for concern should be the stench coming from this line.
The Nebraska secondary has been torched this season—in particular, by Colorado’s Steven Montez and Purdue’s David Blough—and Clayton Thorson is very likely to do the same.
Better yet, even if Northwestern plays poorly and Thorson doesn’t find early success, the Huskers are a virtual lock to gift Northwestern—the least penalized team in the country—lots and lots of penalty yards.
That’s kind of their thing.
The Pick: Northwestern (-3.5)
