Northern Arizona Awaits Visit From Seventh-Ranked Weber State

Only a bye week could slow down Weber State, who heads into Flagstaff, Ariz., for its showdown with Northern Arizona on a three-game win streak.

Last time out, the Wildcats used a strong second half to turn what was a tie-game at the break into a comfortable 45-28 victory over still-winless Northern Colorado.

Josh Davis was phenomenal in the victory, rushing for a career-best 218 yards on 30 carries.

A nightmare second quarter saw Northern Arizona fall behind Idaho State 35-14 at halftime last week—a margin that the Lumberjacks were unable to overcome, despite a 28-point second half.

Daniel Bridge-Gadd was impressive in defeat, completing 30-of-56 passes for 313 yards and two touchdowns.

Get To Know The Name Josh Davis

The redshirt freshman from Sandy, Utah, has been nothing short of spectacular in his first season of action for the Wildcats.

Davis leads the nation in rushing thus far, with 499 yards through three games, topping the century mark on the ground in each of them.

Most recently, he set career marks for single-game rushing (218) and longest run (95) in the team’s victory over the Bears on Sept. 22.

Teams Should Reconsider Kicking To Shaheed

When sophomore wide receiver Rashid Shaheed heads back to return a kickoff on Saturday, the Lumberjacks may want to consider just kicking the thing out of bounds.

Shaheed has two 100-yard kickoff returns for touchdowns in his career after taking another one the length of the field two weeks ago. In 18 games as the Wildcats’ return man the San Diego-native has piled up 967 yards and three touchdowns on 31 returns.

Lumberjacks Still Trying To Find Footing

NAU had to have been feeling pretty good after a season-opening victory over FBS UTEP followed by a narrow five-point loss to third-ranked Eastern Washington in week two.

Since then, it’s been a little rough.

The Lumberjacks bookended a home victory over Southern Utah with blowout losses at Missouri State and Idaho State.

Bridge-Gadd And Emmanuel Butler Provide The Punch

In most cases, scoring has decidedly not been the issue for Northern Arizona, who has received excellent quarterback play from Daniel Bridge-Gadd, to the tune of 1,096 yards and nine touchdowns against four picks on 93-of-158 passing.

Bridge-Gadd’s go-to-guy has, predictably, been senior standout Emmanuel Butler, who leads the team with 22 receptions, 458 yards and four touchdowns in four games.

In last week’s setback at Idaho State Bridge-Gadd found Butler eight times for 187 yards and a score.
