Tuskegee will look to use dominant defense and a balanced offense to get back on track against SIAC foe Lane College on Saturday.

A week after a 16-7 setback in its home opener against Missouri S&T, the Golden Tigers hope to build on the positive—including a 294-yard passing performance by Ahmad Deramus—and get back to their winning ways.

The Tuskegee defense is allowing just 11 points per game since a season-opening loss to Alabama State, including a shutout of Albany State on Sept. 8.

Lane College has found the going tough through its first three games of 2018, with a 42-20 loss to Morehouse sandwiched between a pair of close losses to Lincoln (MO) and Albany State.

Quarterback Marcus Reynolds and running back Josh Jeffrey have been bright spots for the Dragons thus far. Reynolds passed for 150 yards and a score last week. Two weeks prior, Jeffrey piled up 146 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns in the loss to Morehouse.

McQueen Named SIAC Defensive Player of the Week

Lane College senior linebacker DeMichael McQueen earned SIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after tallying 2.5 sacks and 5.5 tackles for loss in the loss to Albany State.

McQueen headlined a defense that allowed just 157 yards of total offense.

DeRamus Steps Up

Since entering at quarterback during the Albany State game, junior quarterback Ahmad DeRamus has been a solid source of offense for Tuskegee.

DeRamus is 29-of-55 for 582 yards and five touchdowns—including a career-best 294 yards passing against Missouri S&T last week.

Golden Lions Lean On Dominant Defense

Davoris Thomas and Ricky Norris have led a stout defensive effort through the first month of the regular season, stymying opposing offenses more often than not.

The duo has combined for 42 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and two interceptions—both Thomas’—pacing a group that has tallied 25 tackles for loss, eight sacks and seven interceptions, while limiting three of four opponents to 17 points-or-less.
