MILTON, Ga. — American Heritage (FL) kicker Jimmy Lowery hammered home a 21-yard field goal as time expired to deliver the Patriots a thrilling victory over St. Joseph Regional (NJ) at the Freedom Bowl on Saturday.

The field goal was Lowery’s second of the game—the first coming from 45 yards out—and sunk the Green Knights after a quarterback sneak by quarterback Michael Alaimo had tied the score with 4:22 to play.

American Heritage took a 7-3 lead after a five-play, 80-yard drive culminated in a score just before halftime. St. Joseph would tie the score at 10 in the third quarter before an 89-yard strike from Edwin Rhodes to Douglas Emilian put American Heritage back on top.

Lowery’s clutch game-winner was of particular benefit to his head coach, Pat Surtain Sr., who left immediately following the game to catch a flight to Orlando, where he’d watch his son, Patrick Surtain, Jr., and top-ranked Alabama hammer Louisville.

With the victory, American Heritage improves to 1-1. The Patriots will host Miramar next week. The Green Knights (0-1) will meet Imhotep in their home opener.
