Freedom Bowl Host Milton Hammers Cardinal Gibbons
Milton (GA) started quick and finished strong, hammering Cardinal Gibbons at the inaugural Freedom Bowl.
MILTON, Ga. — It was a great day to be a Milton Eagle.
After a day full of Freedom Bowl festivities on the campus of the first-ever hosts of the event, the football team delivered, hammering highly-touted Cardinal Gibbons, 42-17, to earn a landmark victory for the program on a grand stage.
The Eagles' drew first blood on special teams. Charlie Keeney scooped up a blocked punt on the tail end of Gibbons' first possession and took it to the barn, giving Milton the early 7-0 lead.
After a Chiefs' field goal, Josh Edwards—who enjoyed a huge night—pushed the lead to 14-3 with less than a minute to play in the first quarter.
