Ohio State Places Urban Meyer On Administrative Leave
Ohio State has placed Urban Meyer on administrative leave.
Ohio State announced Wednesday afternoon they have placed head coach Urban Meyer on paid administrative leave while the university conducts an investigation. Ohio State released the following statement.
"The university is conducting an investigation into these allegations. During the inquiry, Urban Meyer will be on paid administrative leave. Ryan Day will serve as acting head football coach during the investigation. We are focused on supporting our players and on getting to the truth as expeditiously as possible."
Urban Meyer also released a statement in conjunction with Ohio State.
"Gene (Smith, Ohio State athletic director) and I agree that being on leave during this inquiry will facilitate its completion. “This allows the team to conduct training camp with minimal distraction. I eagerly look forward to the resolution of this matter."
The announcement comes hours after Brett McMurphy reported that Meyer likely did know about 2015 domestic violence allegations made against his former wide receivers coach, Zach Smith, by his ex-wife Courtney Smith. Meyer had denied knowledge of those incidents at Big Ten Media days.
Offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Ryan Day will serve as acting head coach during. Day is entering his second season as Ohio State's Offensive coordinator/quarterbacks. The Buckeyes are set to open fall camp on Friday and open the season in Columbus against Oregon State September 1.
