Julian Edelman isn’t going to take his four-game suspension without a fight.
The veteran wide receiver reportedly violated the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs—but he is appealing.
Edelman had apologized on a now deleted Instagram post and claimed that he didn’t know how this could’ve happened.
And he isn’t the only one who is skeptical about the failed drug test.
Albert Breer, a writer for Sports Illustrated’s MMQB, reported that the failed drug test was “triggered by a substance that wasn’t immediately recognizable, and there are scientists analyzing it.”
Edelman has a history of injuries that have held him out of competition, but nothing like this. He missed all of the 2017 season due to a torn ACL. In fact, of the nine years he’s been in the league, he has only played in all 16 regular season games twice.
Nonetheless, he’s certainly a threat when active. In 2016, he ended the year with 98 catches for 1,106 yards, which was thirteenth in the league.
The appeal is set to be finalized Monday and will determine if the Patriots wideout is officially going to miss even more playing time to start the 2018 season.
