Jameis Winston is probably going to be suspended three games by the NFL, and it’s not for stealing crab legs.
The Tampa Bay quarterback violated the NFL’s personal conduct policy for an incident that happened back in 2016.
That incident took place during an Uber ride when Winston allegedly groped the driver. Winston later denied any wrongdoing. However, the NFL is reportedly going to finalize the suspension within the next couple of days.
Before it is finalized, the suspension could be raised or lowered by a couple games. Nonetheless, if Winston doesn’t appeal, it means the Buccaneers will have to rely on veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick in their first several games of 2018.
Fitzpatrick played in six games for the Bucs last year, throwing for 1,103 yards, seven scores, and three interceptions.
Winston, on the other hand, is coming off of his best year in his young career from a passer rating standpoint as he posted a 92.2 in 2017.
There’s more to the story, though. Tampa Bay’s first three games are arguably its most daunting stretch of the whole season. They open with the Saints on the road, followed by the Eagles and Steelers back in Tampa.
So, as the Bucs look to rebound from a 5-11 performance last year, the task at hand is that much harder.
