Lee’s Summit West (MO) defensive back Mario Goodrich became one of the first of the top remaining prospects off the board on Wednesday, signing on to play for defending ACC champion Clemson.

Goodrich was originally committed to Nebraska, and was the subject of a significant late push by the Chad Morris regime at Arkansas, but it was Clemson, Georgia, and LSU with a cap on the table come decision time.

At 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, Goodrich possesses excellent size and length, which bodes well at the cornerback position but also opens the door to safety, given his demonstrated versatility and physicality. Brent Venables and the Tigers defense seem to have landed themselves a great one.

4-Star Matthew Hill Signs With Auburn

Despite some reported waffling from four-star wide receiver Matthew Hill, Auburn still got its man on Wednesday morning — even after Hill elected not to sign with the Tigers in December.

The Under Armour All-American is Auburn’s second-highest-rated signee, trailing only quarterback Joey Gatewood.

The Snellville Brookwood (GA) standout was being recruited as a defensive back by Clemson, so his ultimate impact position at Auburn may still be up in the air. Many have credited Tigers’ assistant coach Kodi Burns — a quarterback turned wide receiver at Auburn — for keeping Hill in the fold.
