Just as most expected, Brevin White, the 13th-ranked pro style quarterback from the 2018 class, gave Alabama head coach Nick Saban a call on Friday.

But — plot twist — just over a week after the Crimson Tide zeroed in on White as their priority at the position, the Lancaster Paraclete (CA) product spurned Bama for… Princeton?

That’s right. The Princeton Tigers — better known for placing alumni in capitol buildings and boardrooms — went head-to-head with the defending national champs and secured the services of a four-star quarterback.

“I wanted to lay out what’s important to me and what school offers me the best opportunity to achieve goals on and off the field,” White told CBS Sports. “Alabama is a great school and a great opportunity, but Princeton checks more boxes.”

A lot of prospects list “academics” as a factor in choosing a school, but White clearly meant it. While most schools point to former players who’ve gone on to enjoy careers in the NFL, Princeton pursued the future economics major with an all-star cast of high net worth business executives who pitched the power of building an Ivy League network of friends and associates.

Dallas Cowboys head coach and former Princeton quarterback Jason Garrett is expected to reach out to White with some offering of NFL precedent at the position, but regardless of whether or not the future Tiger ever walks into a professional huddle, it’s safe to say he’s in line for future success.

With White off the board, the Tide — who are in the running for Centennial (CA) quarterback Tanner McKee — are expected to look to Gilbert Perry (AZ) signal-caller Brock Purdy.
