EJ Smith, Son Of Emmitt, Receives Offer From Florida
EJ Smith, son of NFL Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith, received a scholarship offer from Emmitt's alma mater, Florida, this week.
NFL Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith has a son named EJ. EJ is a sophomore — and he’s very good at football.
Yes, you’re old. And, no, that’s not very surprising.
EJ’s ascent to the forefront of the 2020 prospect class has accelerated rapidly over the course of the past couple of months. As recently as mid-November, the Dallas Jesuit (Texas) running back had two scholarship offers, per 247Sports: SMU and Jackson State.
But, as the rest of us were stuffing our faces during the holiday season, Power Five programs were stuffing the Smith family’s mailbox full of love letters. On Nov. 18, Georgia — of all places — made an offer. Kentucky and Ohio State followed suit in December, followed by Arkansas shortly after the new year.
Then, on Tuesday, Emmitt’s alma mater made EJ an offer he just may not be able to refuse.
I am blessed to say that I have received an offer to go to the University of Florida. Thank you for the opportunity. @SkysTheLimitWR @EJHolland247 @DemetricDWarren @Jason_Howell @FloridaGators @CoachDanMullen pic.twitter.com/RDUKwxGSif

During his three seasons at Florida, the elder Smith totaled 4,391 yards from scrimmage and 37 touchdowns — a career capped by the 1989 SEC Player of the Year award and a consensus All-American nod. He then, of course, went on to become the NFL's all-time leading rusher.
Not all children of Hall of Famers are equipped to live up to the expectations, but programs like Ohio State and Georgia aren’t in the business of handing out scholarships to sophomores as lifetime achievement awards to their famous fathers, so it’s safe to say that EJ has a chance to be special.
