Jacob Eason Reportedly Headed To Washington
Georgia quarterback Jacob Eason is reportedly transferring to Washington.
On Monday night, Georgia lost the national championship game. Tuesday morning, the Seattle Times reported that the Bulldogs may be losing quarterback Jacob Eason, too.
Eason, who is expected to transfer to Washington, was the No. 2-rated quarterback in the class of 2016 and started for Georgia as a true freshman. He held off four-star freshman Jake Fromm during fall camp and started Georgia’s opening week game against Appalachian State, as well.
But then he was injured — and Fromm put a stranglehold on the job.
Eason transferring to Washington makes a ton of sense for two reasons:
1.) Eason is a Lake Stevens (WA) product. So, if he’s going to leave Georgia, going home to Washington to play for Chris Petersen would seem to legitimately be a perfect fit — particularly considering the fact that starting quarterback Jake Browning will be gone in 2019, when Eason is eligible to play for the Huskies.
2.) Losing the job to Fromm and then watching as Fromm led the Bulldogs to the national title game was already not exactly an optimal scenario for Eason. But couple that with the fact that Kirby Smart just signed the nation’s top dual-threat quarterback prospect, Justin Fields, and the writing was on the wall.
Of course, while the quarterback competition at Washington would seem to be a bit lighter, that may not exactly be the case. The Huskies just signed two four-star quarterbacks from the 2018 class, Colson Yankoff and Jacob Sirmon.
So, while Eason and Petersen seems like a match made in football heaven, the former five-star mega prospect will still need to bring his A-game in Seattle to reclaim his spot as QB1.
