Longview built an early 13-0 lead but needed some heroics from Kamden Perry to earn a thrilling 33-32 victory over arch rival Lufkin in the 6A-2 regional final.

After spotting the Lobos 13 points, the Panthers stormed back, taking a 32-26 lead with just 2:06 to play after a 16-play, 87-yard drive.

Keilyn Williams returned the ensuing kickoff 50 yards down to the Lufkin 38-yard line, however, returning some of the lost momentum to the Longview offense.

Three plays later, Haynes King found Perry — who made a fantastic catch — from 28 yards out to put the Lobos up for good, 33-32. The lead change was the sixth of the game.

Perry finished with 113 yards and two touchdowns on eight receptions. King went 13-of-21 with 177 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions — he also ran for a score. As a team, Longview rushed for 204 yards, with Williams’ 90 yards leading the way.

Lufkin senior running back Isaiah Phillips was the star of the afternoon, rushing for 237 yards and three touchdowns on 36 carries — including the go-ahead score at the tail end of that 87-yard drive.

Longview will face Waco Midway in the state semifinals on Saturday at Allen’s Eagle Stadium.
