McCallum built a 20-0 lead, absorbed some third quarter blows, and rolled to a 20-7 victory over Calallen to earn a spot in the 5A-2 final four.

The Knights were dominant defensively, holding Calallen to just one first down in the first half. When McCallum had the ball, they played outstanding complimentary football, rushing for 255 yards in the first half while building what would prove to be an insurmountable lead.

Alexander Julian got the Knights rolling with a 31-yard touchdown run to grab the early 7-0 lead.

One possession later, McCallum was again effective on the ground, picking up runs of 14 and 12 yards from Max Perez and Deron Gage, respectively. The drive would stall but Ian Carson drilled a 37-yard field goal to make it a two possession game.

Later in the first half, facing fourth and 1, Perez picked up the first down and then some — racing 35 yards for the score and grabbing complete control of the contest for McCallum.

Another Carson field goal would set the halftime margin at 20-0.

Colton Duff put the Wildcats on the board in the third quarter, faking the handoff to Alec Brown and running to paydirt along near sideline to cut the deficit to 20-7.

Unfortunately for Calallen, they’d get no closer.

All told, McCallum piled up 279 rushing yards and held Calallen to just 141 total yards. Max Perez rushed for 98 yards on 18 carries, while Julian and Gage added 94 yards and 80 yards, respectively.
