Good luck finding a better pair of playoff games under one roof than what’s set to take place at the Alamodome on Saturday.

It’s a battle of Austin vs. San Antonio, as Lake Travis and Westlake head south to face O’Connor and Cibolo Steele, respectively.

Hank Carter’s Lake Travis team enters the Class 6A, Division I quarterfinal round on an absolute tear offensively. The Cavaliers have scored 40 or more points in seven consecutive games and chased one of the best games in the state of Texas this season — a 47-39 come-from-behind victory over Judson Converse at DKR Stadium — with a 42-7 shellacking of Los Fresnos.

Undefeated O’Connor has an offense that can score with Lake Travis. The Panthers head into Saturday’s contest averaging 44 points per game during the playoffs — a full touchdown better than their regular season mean. O'Connor quarterback Roel Sanchez was spectacular in last week’s win over San Benito, totaling 346 yards and six touchdowns.

By now, everyone knows Steele’s story. After a four-game losing streak, the Knights have reeled off eight straight wins since their 36-21 victory over Weslaco East in a game that was also played in the Alamodome. Brenden Brady piled up 454 yards in the team’s first two 6A-DII playoff games before sophomore De’Quavian Thomas led the way with 143 yards and two scores last week.

Westlake is Westlake — and Todd Dodge is doing what Todd Dodge does. All of that simply means that the unbeaten Chaparrals are a championship-or-bust juggernaut that will roll into San Antonio while peaking at the perfect time. Westlake hasn’t scored fewer than 51 points since Oct. 13 and enters the weekend fresh off of a 70-13 demolition of Vela.

McCallum and Calallen get things started with some 5A-2 action at noon (CT), followed by Lake Travis and O’Connor at 4 PM, and the Westlake-Steele matchup at 8 PM — but you don’t have to make the trip to San Antonio to catch all of the action.
