Chad Morris To Be Named Next Arkansas Head Coach

Three days ago, Arkansas was without an athletic director and a head football coach. Today, the Razorbacks have both, as newly hired athletic director Hunter Yurachek has tabbed SMU head coach Chad Morris to take over a program that has struggled to transcend mediocrity since the dismissal of Bobby Petrino in 2012.

Morris is well-suited for the task, having transformed what was one of college football's worst programs at SMU into a seven-win bowl team and American Athletic Conference title contender in just three years.

The SMU offense — once among the worst in the country — has soared under Morris' leadership, averaging the eighth-most points per game (40.2) this season.

Prior to assuming the control of the program at SMU, Morris was the offensive coordinator at Clemson, where he was at the forefront of the Tigers' turnaround from ACC also-ran to perennial national title contender.

The former Texas high school football coach is also a Texas recruiting dynamo — something the Hogs are in desperate need of.

Morris informed his team of his decision to depart for Arkansas during a team meeting on Wednesday morning. An official announcement is expected from Yurachek and the Razorbacks in the next 24 hours.
