Euless Trinity Knocks Off Midland Lee

Courage Keihn rushed for 285 yards and two touchdowns to lead Euless Trinity to a 34-23 victory over Midland Lee in the regional round of the Texas UIL Class 6A, Division I Playoffs at Shotwell Stadium in Abilene on Saturday night.

The Trojans were on the board first with a 1-yard touchdown run by Lake Ellis with 1:57 to play in the first quarter — a drive that came on the heels of an interception in the opposite end zone three plays earlier.


Midland Lee running back Avery Akbar put a bow on an eight-play, 59-yard drive to with a 5-yard touchdown run to tie the score 7-7. One possession later, kicker John Thompson knocked down his first field goal of the season and the Rebels led 10-7.

Lee quarterback Colby Standard rushed for 135 yards on 22 carries — along with 179 passing yards — and he scored two possessions later to put Midland Lee out in front 17-10 with 1:31 to play in the first half.

The second half was all Trinity.


Trailing by four, Toby Harrah got the party started for Trinity in the second half, collecting a 46-yard pass from Ellis to put the Trojans up 20-17 — and they’d never trail again.

Keihn added a pair of touchdown runs over the next 22:49 to ice the regional victory for Trinity.

The Trojans (11-2) advance to play Allen (13-0) in the state quarterfinals next Saturday at UNT's Apogee Stadium in Denton. The Rebels finish their season with a 10-3 record.
