Sunday Runday: The Best Runs From Week 13
The best runs and runners of week 13.
We had plenty to be thankful for during a holiday weekend that was jam-packed with football. Here are some of the best runs and runners we noticed in between bites of turkey and pie.
Don't see a run that, in your expert opinion, is far superior to one of these? Well, that's on you. Hit us up on Facebook, Twitter, or the 'Gram — #SundayRunday — and tip us off next time.
Mike Hughes’ 95-Yard Kickoff Return
It’s sort of rare that a game with the sort of one-off buzz that this year’s War on I-4 had actually lives up to the hype, but UCF-South Florida was everything we hoped it’d be and more.
After Quinton Flowers — he of 605 total yards of offense — led the Bulls all the way back to tie the score at 42 a piece, Hughes took the ensuing kickoff to the barn and turned South Florida’s Friday after Thanksgiving black.
The lesson here, as always, is don’t kick to Mike Hughes.
Murray Goes 66 Yards On First Play From Scrimmage
Kyler Murray made sure that Baker Mayfield’s pseudo suspension was extremely brief.
With Mayfield on the bench for the first possession of the Sooners’ final home game of the year, Murray took the first play of the game 66 yards down to the West Virginia 4-yard line — from whence Rodney Anderson would find the end zone one play later.
Playing early and late, Murray rushed for 80 yards on three carries and completed both pass attempts for 52 yards and a touchdown — providing future Oklahoma opponents a glimpse of what’s in store.
Royce Freeman Breaks The Pac-12 Rushing Record
It was this easy all night long for Oregon in the latest rendition of the Civil War. The Ducks rolled to a massive first half lead and coasted to a 69-10 victory — of which Freeman played little more than two quarters.
Still, the Ducks’ record-setting runner was in the lineup long enough to rush for 122 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries — and haul in two receptions for 20 yards for good measure.
His second rushing touchdown gave him the Pac-12 record for career rushing touchdowns (60), while his second reception made him just the fourth player in NCAA history with 5,000 yards rushing and 800 yards receiving.
Gaskin Leads Washington To Apple Cup Demolition Of Wazzu
Myles Gaskin ran all over Washington State to the tune of 192 rushing yards and four touchdowns — the highlight of which was this 26-yard run just past the midway point of the third quarter.
“That one was cool,” Gaskin said. “I didn’t know if I was going to get in there. They missed a tackle, so I was like, ‘I got to make it happen.’”
And so he did.
Kerryon Johnson Makes The Most Of The Iron Bowl
Kerryon Johnson did what Kerryon Johnson does.
The junior running back rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries into the teeth of the Alabama defense. But, his hallmark in this one was a pass.
Johnson is now 1 of 1 for 3 yards and a touchdown in 2017. For his career, he’s now 4 for 4 for 14 yards and two touchdowns. Is there anything he can’t do?
