Longview Pulls Away From West Brook For Convincing Win

One year after West Brook ended Longview’s season in the first round of the Texas UIL Class 6A Division II playoffs in Beaumont, the Lobos returned the favor.

Longview (10-1) hammered West Brook (7-3) down the stretch, peppering the Bruins with big play after big play en route to a 42-21 victory on Friday night. A’Darius Carter scored three times and the Lobos never trailed.

Longview got things started with an 8:50 drive that spanned 15 plays before Carter hammered home a touchdown from a yard out to put the home team up 7-0 with just 1:19 to play in the first quarter.

Deonte Simpson Puts Bruins On The Board

West Brook returned fire, as L’Ravien Elia hit Deonte Simpson for a 20-yard touchdown. The point after failed and Longview retained its lead at 7-6 — a total that held it into the halftime break.

The first and second halves couldn’t have been more different for the Bruins. While the first half was evenly contested, the second half was all Lobos.

Keilyn Williams Goes To The House

On Longview’s first drive of the third quarter, Paul Hutchins went 73 yards up the gut to push his team's lead to 14-6.

West Brook had one final answer, as James Jones sliced in from 3 yards out on the ensuing drive — plus, Elia to Bralin Simon on the two-point try — and the score was knotted 14-14 with 8:14 to play in the third quarter.

A'Darius Carter Is Off To The Races

Twenty seconds later, Carter struck again — this time on the receiving end of an 80-yard pitch and catch from Haynes King — to put the Lobos up 21-14, signaling the beginning of the end for West Brook.

On consecutive plays, Longview scored from 73 yards and 80 yards out, respectively. Each were season highs for the Lobos at the time.

Nearing the end of the third quarter, Longview went almost exclusively to the ground, riding Keilyn Williams on 48-yard drive that was capped by Williams’ 13th touchdown of the season to put Longview up 28-14 — and the Lobos were far from finished.

Jalen Carr Picks Off Ninth Pass

West Brook tried to go to its bag of tricks on the ensuing possession, pulling out a double pass. Unfortunately for the Bruins, the receiver of the second toss was none other than Jalen Carr. Carr plays for Longview — and the interception was his ninth of the season.

Jaylin Brown Hauls In a TD Catch

That set up a 47-yard touchdown strike from King to Jaylin Brown to push the Lobos’ lead to 35-14 and all but end the game, despite a quarter still to play.

Carter’s third touchdown of the night — this one on the ground from 7 yards out — officially slammed the door shut.

Longview advances to play Dallas Jesuit (7-4) on Saturday, Nov. 25, at Kincaide Stadium in Dallas. Jesuit is coming off a 79-55 win over Garland Lakeview Centennial on Friday night.
