Prosper Dominates Frisco Wakeland 38-14
Prosper defeated Frisco Wakeland 38-14 to win the bi-district championship and advance in the UIL playoffs.
Prosper scored 31 unanswered points over the final 30 minutes to seize revenge in dominant fashion, blowing out Frisco Wakeland 38-14 in the UIL 5A-D2 bi-district round on Thursday, just one year after Wakeland ended the Eagles' season in the same game.
Prosper opened the game with a 14-play, five-minute drive that culminated with a 1-yard touchdown run by Jostein Clarke. On the ensuing possession, the Wolverines went three-and-out and it appeared as though Prosper may impose its will early.
That didn't happen.
Prosper committed two costly turnovers in the early going — the first of which would be a muff on the tail end of the first Wakeland punt. Two plays later, Dylan Cadwallader found Tre Adams for the score and the game was tied 7-7.
On the ensuing Prosper possession, Keegan Shoemaker was picked off by Peyton Reinersten, which set up another Cadwallader-to-Adams touchdown and gave the Wolverines a 14-7 lead with 8:07 to play until halftime.
Unfortunately for Wakeland, the good news ended there. It was all Prosper over the final 32:07.
Kaleb Adams capped a six-play drive with a 5-yard touchdown run on the next possession to tie the score at 14 a piece.
And, when it looked like the Wolverines would again answer back, Blake Harrington hauled in a massive interception inside his own 5-yard line to turn away Cadwallader and company.
With just five seconds to play in the first half, Shoemaker found Clarke for his second score of the half to give Prosper a 21-14 lead at the break.
On their first drive of the second half, the Eagles faced fourth-and-2 at the Wakeland 24-yard line. Adams picked up the 2 yards — plus 22 more — on his way to a 24-yard touchdown run to give Prosper a commanding 28-14 advantage.
The Eagles' defense was dominant after surrendering the early scores, repeatedly pressuring Cadwallader and effectively neutralizing the Wakeland offense. Nothing worked for the Wolverines, whose mistakes compounded their frustration in the second half.
Finally, the game all but over, a fumble recovery by the Prosper defense set Adams and his boys up with goal to go from the Wakeland 4-yard line. One play later, Adams was standing in the end zone, the final margin was set, and the Eagles were bi-district champs.
Prosper now awaits the winner of Marshall and Poteet in a game scheduled for 7:30 PM (CST) on Friday.
